According to the New York Post, a representative for the legendary actress confirmed that she passed away on Friday at the age of 67.

Actress died following a brief illness

Delano's death occurred at her home in Los Angeles and came following a brief illness. Her official cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Originally from California, Delano went to Canoga Park High School in Los Angeles before going on to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

While her acting career began in 1983, Delano gained prominence with her role as police officer Barbara Semanski on "Northern Exposure," which began its five-season run seven years later.

Set in the fictional remote town of Cicely, Alaska, it centered on the adventures of a doctor who had relocated from New York City.

Delano's career spanned both television and movies

Delano worked alongside co-stars Rob Morrow, Janine Turner, Barry Corbin, as well as John Corbett and appeared in every season of "Northern Exposure" aside from its first.

The program was nominated for a total of 39 Emmy Awards and won seven times, with two awards coming in 1992 alone.

The Post noted that in addition to playing Semanski, Delano also appeared on such other shows as "Popular," "Days of Our Lives," "St. Elsewhere," "L.A. Law," "Perfect Strangers," "Married … With Children," "Desperate Housewives," "Monk," "NCIS," "Wizards of Waverly Place," "2 Broke Girls," and "Two and a Half Men."

Delano's career wasn't limited to the small screen, with her movie credits including "The Wicker Man," Jeepers "Creepers 2," and "The Ladykillers."

News of Delano's passing was quickly met with tributes on social media, including from longtime actor, writer, and producer Herbie J. Pilato.
