Trump nominates football legend Herschel Walker to serve as ambassador to the Bahamas
President-elect Donald Trump has spent much of the past two months nominating figures to serve in his new administration.
Trump revealed his latest selection this week by announcing that legendary football player Herschel Walker will serve as America's ambassador to the Bahamas.
Trump points to Walker's history as an mental health activist and champion athlete
As Breitbart reported, Trump broke the news in a Truth Social post on Tuesday, writing, "Herschel has spent decades serving as an Ambassador to our Nation’s youth, our men and women in the Military, and athletes at home and abroad."
The president-elect hailed Walker as "[a] successful businessman, philanthropist, former Heisman Trophy winner, and NFL Great, Herschel has been a tireless advocate for youth sports."
"During my First Term, he served as Co-Chair of the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition," Trump recalled.
"Herschel has traveled to over 400 Military installations around the World, removing the stigma surrounding mental health," he went on to point out.
Walker represented the U.S. at the 1992 Winter Olympics as a bobsled team member
Trump noted how Walker "represented the United States at the 1992 Winter Olympics as a member of the U.S. bobsled team."
"Congratulations Herschel!" the president-elect wrote as he drew to a close. "You will make Georgia, and our entire Nation, proud, because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!"
"After he left Georgia, Walker played three years in the U. S. Football League with the New Jersey Generals 1983-1985, and 12 years in the National Football League with Dallas, Minnesota, Philadelphia, and the New York Giants 1986-97," it stressed.
In addition to his achievements on the football field, Walker also fought as a mixed martial artist before making an unsuccessful Georgia Senate run two years ago.
Trump nominated eldest son's former fiancée to serve as ambassador to Greece
Trump's nomination of Walker came less than a week after he chose Kimberly Guilfoyle to serve as U.S. ambassador to Greece.
CNN reported that Trump heralded Guilfoyle as being someone who is "perfectly suited to foster strong bilateral relations with Greece, advancing our interests on issues ranging from defense cooperation to trade and economic innovation."
While Guilfoyle was previously engaged to the president-elect's eldest son, Page Six recently observed that the pair have since broken up.
