He's 'not so much a Democrat': Hillary Clinton's ex-running mate

When questioned about the post-election reckoning of the Democratic Party, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), who had previously served as Hillary Clinton's running mate, referred to himself as "not so much a Democrat."

While Kaine, a former governor of Virginia and chair of the Democratic National Committee, was standing opposite conservative Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) during a 'shared ground' segment on Fox News, he made the shocking statement, as The Daily Mail reported.

In light of the fact that Donald Trump is getting ready to recapture power after winning seven battleground states and even prevailing in the popular vote, host Bret Baier posed the question to him as to whether or not the Democratic Party was having a "thought about the future."

From the Politicians

The former governor's surprising comments came as the nation reels from record division and a hard-line stance by both President-elect Donald Trump and the leadership in the Democrat party.

"Look, we are having a significant discussion about the next few years. I'm not so much a Democrat, I'm a Virginia guy," Kaine responded, in a seeming attempt to make his alleviate his far-left branding.

"So, I'm very focused on Virginia but I think if I could sum it up, the attitude now is: advance everywhere we can together. And defend everything we must."

The Commonwealth of Virginia has produced a long line of national figures, including founders who held deep connections to the state, and many lawmakers emphasize their ties to their states.

Response

This admission, however, garnered immediate attention on the internet at a time when there have been a number of indications that Trump is showing signs of ascendancy.

As a result of the fact that major CEOs who have previously voiced their disapproval of Trump's nominations have been coming to Mar-a-Lago and donating to his inaugural committee, some of the opposition to Trump's contentious nominees has been fading away.

Kaine, an incoming senator who had to fend off Republican challenger Hung Cao in what was a close call for the longtime Democrat, is attempting to reach out to the more moderate base.

Kane's Acceptance of the Election

Kaine spoke to his supporters at a speech in Richmond following the results of the election, saying, “Thank you so much for putting your faith in me."

“And you may or may not, over the course of the next six years, agree or disagree with this or that. But I won’t embarrass you. I won’t let you down."

"I won’t cause you to lose a moment of sleep. And we will keep moving Virginia and this country forward.”
