Meghan Markle's surprising comment about King Charles and Queen Camilla lives on
Meghan Markle made her disapproval of King Charles and Queen Camilla's lack of support for her and Prince Harry known in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Meghan asserted that she was "silenced" and not "protected" by the Royal Family in response to claims that she caused Kate Middleton to cry over a disagreement on Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress, as Mediaite reported.
After marrying Prince Harry, Meghan Markle quickly learned that the royal family would not shield her from harm, as she revealed to Oprah Winfrey.
From the Interview
Not only was she not protected, but Meghan told Winfrey in their pre-recorded interview that they were even prepared to lie to protect other family members.
"Nevertheless, they refused to be honest in order to safeguard my husband and me," she said. She did not give specific examples.
There were discussions and worries about her son Archie's potential skin color when she was pregnant with him, she added. After sitting silently for a while, Winfrey asked, "What?" incredulously in response to the statement.
Because she felt it would be extremely harmful to expose the identity of the person who had this discussion with Harry and who he relayed to her, Meghan chose not to reveal their identity.
No Security
The news that her baby would not be a prince and so not be eligible for palace security shocked Meghan, she added.
Meghan initially expressed no concern regarding her status as a divorced, mixed-race American actress entering the British royal family. However, she later reconsidered the matter after they prompted her to ponder their actions.
Meghan stated that it was not the royal family members themselves who treated her in this manner, but rather the individuals who manage the institution. Her emphasis was that the monarch herself was consistently delightful to her when they interacted.
When Meghan Markle married Prince Harry, she admitted to Oprah Winfrey that she was not entirely aware of the responsibilities of the position.
On the Interview
The two-hour pre-recorded conversation between Winfrey and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, which was much anticipated, made headlines due to the American insider's portrayal of life in the British royal family.
While discussing the time leading up to the royal wedding, Meghan said that she couldn't have imagined the day-to-day challenges that would lie ahead.
"That's what was really tricky over those past few years, is when the perception and the reality are two very different things," Meghan said. "And you're being judged on the perception, but you're living the reality of it."
