Biden okays $1.25 billion weapons package for Ukraine

President Joe Biden is going out with a bang.

The Associated Press reports that the Biden White House is now going to send another $1.25 billion in weapons to Ukraine.

This, of course, will be to assist Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia.

The move, however, is highly controversial, as many Americans have turned against the idea of continuing to fund this war. And, this is not to mention the fact that President-Elect Donald Trump may be looking to handle this situation completely differently from what we have seen from the White House.

Here are the details:

At the time of this writing, the aid package has not been publicly reported. According to the Associated Press, however, who has spoken with members of the Biden administration, it is set to be released on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024.

Per the outlet:

The United States is expected to announce that it will send $1.25 billion in military assistance to Ukraine, U.S. officials said Friday, as the Biden administration pushes to get as much aid to Kyiv as possible before leaving office on Jan. 20.

The Associated Press goes on to detail what is likely to be included in the aide package.

It reports:

The large package of aid includes a significant amount of munitions, including for the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems and the HAWK air defense system. It also will provide Stinger missiles and 155 mm- and 105 mm artillery rounds, officials said.

The outlet writes, "The officials, who said they expect the announcement to be made on Monday, spoke on condition of anonymity to provide details not yet made public."

When does it end?

Chances are that Trump is not too happy about this move.

"During the campaign, President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance heavily criticized the Biden administration’s support for Ukraine after Russia’s 2022 invasion," Fox News reports.

It adds:

Trump also said he would end the war before even entering office without offering further details. Vance suggested earlier this year that the best way to end the war was for Ukraine to cede the land Russia has seized and for a demilitarized zone to be established, a proposal Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy flatly rejected. Since the campaign trial, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy while at a ceremony commemorating the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on Saturday after a devastating fire there in 2019.

Trump, thus far, has not been able to end the war, although he is clearly working on it.

The Biden administration sending weaponry to Ukraine is certainly not going to help matters. It is almost as if Biden is trying to undermine Trump before Trump is able to get to the Oval Office.
