Incoming First Lady Melania Trump has just released a statement on the devastating wildfires that have ravaged California.

She did so, according to the Daily Mail, during a recent interview on the Fox News Channel's Fox & Friends.

"It's devastating. I'm thinking about those people, and I pray for them," she said.

Mrs. Trump added, "I just hope that everybody evacuated and that they are safe, and I hope that the government and FEMA is there to help them.

Trump weighs in

Mrs. Trump's husband, President-Elect Donald Trump, has also released a number of statements on the wildfire situation. He is placing a lot of blame for the situation on California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

In one recent statement on the situation, Trump wrote, "One of the best and most beautiful parts of the United States of America is burning down to the ground. It’s ashes, and Gavin Newscum should resign. This is all his fault!!!"

Trump, though, did not stop there. He followed up with two other statements.

In another, he wrote:

Fire is spreading rapidly for 3 days — ZERO CONTAINMENT. Nobody has ever seen such failed numbers before! Gross incompetence by Gavin Newscum and Karen Bass….And Biden’s FEMA has no money — all wasted on the Green New Scam! L.A. is a total wipeout!!!

And, in yet another statement, Trump wrote:

Governor Gavin Newscum should immediately go to Northern California and open up the water main, and let the water flow into his dry, starving, burning State, instead of having it go out into the Pacific Ocean. It ought to be done right now, NO MORE EXCUSES FROM THIS INCOMPETENT GOVERNOR. IT’S ALREADY FAR TOO LATE!

$100 million cut

Trump probably has a point in trying to place some blame on Newsom.

Fox News, for example, recently reported that Newsom signed off on budget cuts that took over $100 million away from wildfire and forest resilience.

Per the outlet:

A review of last year's California state budget shows California Gov. Gavin Newsom cut funding for wildfire and forest resilience by more than $100 million. The budget, signed in June and covering the 2024-25 fiscal year, eliminated $101 million from seven "wildfire and forest resilience" programs, according to a report from Newsweek.

The outlet goes on to report that "Cal Fire had a $5 million reduction in spending on fuel reduction teams, including funds used to pay for vegetation management work by the California National Guard."

Fox also highlights a number of other cuts. This certainly did not help the situation.
