Pete Hegseth has been nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as Secretary of Defense, and he faced intense questioning from Senate Democrats on Tuesday.

While allegations have been raised about Hegseth's personal life, leaked FBI records give no cause for concern.

Report: Hegseth's FBI file is "unremarkable"

That's according to a Punchbowl News report which was cited by Breitbart. It claimed that Hegseth's FBI file was delivered to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker and Ranking Member Jack Reed last week.

Punchbowl News spoke with unnamed Republican members of the Senate Armed Services Committee who indicated that Hegseth's file is "unremarkable."

Critics of Hegseth have pointed to allegations from anonymous sources about excessive alcohol consumption as well as sexual misconduct.

"How many senators have showed up drunk to vote at night?"

However, Fox News noted that Hegseth received support on Tuesday from Oklahoma Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin, who accused his colleagues of hypocrisy.

"I think it's so hypocritical of senators, especially on the other side, to be talking about his qualifications. And yet your qualifications aren't any better," Mullin stated.

"How many senators have showed up drunk to vote at night?" Mullin demanded. "Have any of you guys asked them to step down and resign from their job? And don't tell me you haven't seen it because I know you have."

"And then how many senators do you know have got a divorce for cheating on their wives? Did you ask them to step down? No," the Oklahoma Republican continued.

Hegseth wants to remove DEI programs "root and branch" from the military

"You guys make sure you make a big show and point out the hypocrisy because a man's made a mistake, and you want to sit there and say that he's not qualified," Mullin continued.

"It is so ridiculous that you guys hold yourself as this higher standard. You forget you got a big plank in your eye," the senator went on to add.

In addition to defending his record, the Washington Examiner noted that Hegseth also went on the offensive against the military's diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

"First and foremost, up front, you have to tear out DEI and [critical race theory] initiatives, root and branch out of institutions," he told lawmakers.
