The anti-Trump left and their supporters continue to find ways to nitpick at President Donald Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, even if it means grasping at straws.

That was the case recently when Melania Trump and the president flew out to California to meet with Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and tour some of the areas affected by the deadly and destructive wildfires.

According to the Daily Mail, upon arriving and meeting Newsom, Melania Trump accepted a kiss from the governor which immediately sparked social media intrigue from anti-Trumpers, who tried to spin the moment into something it clearly was not. 

The argument was that Melania seemingly "dodged" a kiss from her husband at the inauguration but "eagerly accepted" one from Gov. Newsom.

Not what's happening

Anyone who actually watched the inauguration could clearly see that due to the first lady's enormous hat, it would be difficult for anyone to kiss her, even her husband, who struggled somewhat to get under the brim of the large hat.

However, the anti-Trump sector of social media didn't mind that fact at all and instead attempted to portray the moment as something more salacious.

Some commenters on social media even suggested that Melania Trump used her hat as a tool to avoid a smooch from her newly installed presidential husband.

While many offered similar theories, there were at least some people with a lick of common sense and logic who weighed in on the matter, explaining the "air kiss" given to her husband at the inauguration.

"The air kiss avoids smudging her meticulously applied makeup. In high-profile events, maintaining a flawless appearance is crucial, and direct contact could disrupt her makeup, especially with the added complexity of her hat. Opting for an air kiss allowed her to preserve her look while still engaging in a public display of affection," one commenter wrote.

As far as the kiss from Gov. Newsom, it was nothing more than Melania Trump staying as classy as she always has.

Ugly reaction

Social media was filled with nasty reactions to Melania's interaction with Newsom.

Many suggested she was staring at him and "couldn't wait" for a kiss, which is obviously ridiculous and untrue.

It's beyond lame.

It just goes to show that the anti-Trump left is still a very triggered sector of America, and probably will be for at least four more years.
