White House wants an apology from Dems' congressional leader
The White House of President Donald Trump is calling for an apology from U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).
This comes, according to Fox News, after the House Minority Leader called for people to fight "in the streets" against Trump's agenda.
Many have taken this as a call for violence, which is why the White House is now calling upon Jeffries to withdraw his statement essentially.
It remains to be seen whether the Democratic leader will do so.
Here is how it started:
This whole situation started on Friday, when Jeffries was asked about New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D), especially about how Adams, despite being a Democrat, has seemed to side with Trump on certain issues, including that of illegal immigration.
Given this, a reporter asked Jeffries weather Adams is really the right person to be leading New York City.
Jeffries replied:
Right now, we're going to keep focus on the need to look out for everyday New Yorkers and everyday Americans who are under assault by an extreme MAGA Republican agenda that is trying to cut taxes for billionaires, donors, and wealthy corporations and then stick New Yorkers and working-class Americans across the country with the bill. That's not acceptable. We are going to fight it legislatively. We are going to fight it in the courts. We're going to fight it in the streets.

Trump's White House responds:
It did not take long for the White House of President Trump to respond to the situation.
The response came from White House deputy press secretary Kush Desai. Desai said:
While President Trump remains focused on uniting our country and delivering the mandate set by the American people, the House Minority Leader, Hakeem Jeffries, incites violence calling for people to fight ‘in the streets’ against President Trump’s agenda. This unhinged violent rhetoric is dangerous. Leader Jeffries should immediately apologize.
Jeffries then responded with a statement through his spokesperson, Christie Stephenson.
Stephenson said:
The notion that Leader Jeffries supports violence is laughable. Republicans are the party that pardons violent felons who assault police officers. Democrats are the party of John Lewis and the right to petition the government peacefully.
Suffice it to say that Republicans are not laughing about the situation, as more continue to come forward to condemn Jeffries.
