Outgoing DNC chair argues Dems should have gone with Biden over Harris
The outgoing leader of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is arguing that the Democrats would have been better off to stick with former President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential election.
Fox News reports that Jaime Harrison said as much during a recent interview.
Democratic leadership, of course, decided to oust Biden and replace him atop the Democratic Party ticket with former Vice President Kamala Harris.
It is probably safe to say that Biden would have done better than Harris - but it is a low bar.
It was a bad choice
Harrison recently spoke with the Associated Press, and it was there that he talked about the Democrats' decision to replace Biden with Harris.
When asked whether the Democrats ought to have "stuck with" Biden, Harrison replied in the affirmative.
He said:
That’s my normal default, is that you stick by your people, right, particularly people who have worked hard on behalf of the party . . . My nature is, ‘I’m on the team with you, you’re my quarterback. You got sacked a few times. But you know what? I’m going to block the hell out of the next person that’s coming at you.’ And that is not always the mentality of everybody in my party. And so sometimes, people look on the sidelines, ready to call in the backup.
By "you got sacked a few times," Harrison is clearly referring to, among other things, Biden's terrible debate performance against President Donald Trump.
This was the moment when the Democrats seemed to realize that Biden was probably not going to get the job done against Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
One party looking forward, another backward
There is no question that the Democratic Party has been doing a lot of searching for answers following their big loss to Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
It is worth remembering just how big that loss was, as the Democrats lost not only the presidency but also the Senate and the House of Representatives. This is not to mention the fact that the Supreme Court has a conservative majority.
What is interesting, though, is that the Democrats still do not seem to be able to put their finger on exactly what went wrong. They seem unwilling, for example, to even entertain the possibility that maybe the product that they have been selling is a bad one that was soundly rejected by the American people.
The big question for the Democrat Party going forward is who is going to take over the reins, and there is still no answer to this question.
Meanwhile, the Republicans' future is very clear. They succeeded in the 2024 elections, and now they are trying to make good on their promises to the American people.
