Trump White House celebrates Black History Month
The White House of President Donald Trump is celebrating Black History Month.
The White House indicated as much in a memo that it released on Jan. 31, 2025.
This was right before the start of Black History Month, which, of course, begins in February.
Many have wondered, given some of the other actions taken by the Trump administration, whether the White House would acknowledge Black History Month. Trump has now made it clear that it will.
"I am very honored"
In the White House press release, Trump says that he is "very honored to recognize February 2025 as National Black History Month."
"Every year, National Black History Month is an occasion to celebrate the contributions of so many black American patriots who have indelibly shaped our Nation’s history," he continues.
From there, Trump went on to talk about some of the contributions that black individuals have made to America throughout its history.
He writes:
American heroes such as Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Thomas Sowell, Justice Clarence Thomas, and countless others represent what is best in America and her citizens. Their achievements, which have monumentally advanced the tradition of equality under the law in our great country, continue to serve as an inspiration for all Americans. We will also never forget the achievements of American greats like Tiger Woods, who have pushed the boundaries of excellence in their respective fields, paving the way for others to follow.
It is worth noting that the likes of Sowell - known for his work in economics - and Thomas, among the others, are typically not mentioned by the political left even though these individuals are alive right now and making significant contributions to our country.
What to expect:
Trump, in the press release, highlights the fact that his administration is looking to create another American "Golden Age," and he writes, "I want to extend my tremendous gratitude to black Americans for all they have done to bring us to this moment, and for the many future contributions they will make as we advance into a future of limitless possibility under my Administration."
From there, Trump gives his proclamation.
He states, "I call upon public officials, educators, librarians, and all the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities."
Those on the political left had tried to claim that Trump would scrap Black History Month, just as he has scrapped all of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
This, however, is clearly not the case.
