Reports suggest Michelle Obama rebutted divorce rumors with social media post
Rumors have been circulating for weeks or longer about the possible impending demise of the decades-old marriage between former President and first lady Barack and Michelle Obama.
Michelle may have just indirectly addressed the divorce rumors with a social media post that referred to Barack as "my husband" and mentioned some of their future plans together, Business Times reported.
Yet, while that may satisfy some of the speculation about the Obama marriage, it will likely prove insufficient to quell all of the gossip about the current status of their relationship.
Did Michelle address the divorce rumors?
Marca reported that former first lady Michelle Obama took to Instagram this week to announce the Obama Presidential Center's plans to honor the late musician Hadiya Pendleton, who was tragically shot to death in Chicago in 2013 just weeks after her high school band performed at former President Obama's second inauguration ceremony.
Those plans include the eventual construction of a special memorial garden that will be dedicated to the young woman's lost life.
In that post, in which she referred to Barack as "my husband," Michelle wrote, "Hadiya had an extraordinary light that will not be forgotten, and Barack and I look forward to honoring her memory."
That message has been interpreted by some as an indirect rebuttal to the impending divorce rumors and a confirmation that Michelle and Barack remain and will continue to be a happily married couple for the foreseeable future.
Sources say the couple is "already separated," divorce likely imminent
Michelle's Instagram post may not satisfy everyone that all is well with the Obama marriage, especially considering recent reports that detailed the supposed approaching end of their decades-long relationship.
Radar Online cited multiple admittedly anonymous sources as claiming that both Barack and Michelle are "ready to move on" from their marital partnership, with one source asserting that Michelle was "finally putting herself first" after having "sacrificed so much for him over the years."
Another source said the pair were "already separated and living apart" and that a "quiet" and non-public divorce was coming soon.
Why is the marriage supposedly troubled?
Rumors have swirled for months about an alleged extramarital affair involving Barack, but the speculation about a troubled Obama marriage was kicked into high gear in recent weeks when Michelle was a no-show at both the state funeral for late former President Jimmy Carter and the second inauguration of President Donald Trump, both of which Barack attended by himself.
One of the supposed driving factors behind the alleged impending divorce is Barack's reported anger toward Michelle over her reported refusal of his insistent demands that she run for the presidency, and his subsequent blame of her for Trump's victory given his firm belief that Michelle would have easily defeated him.
Michelle, who was never a fan of living in Washington D.C. but "dutifully" supported Barack's political career for years, was said to have found his demands for her to reenter that "maelstrom" she escaped from to be "totally unfair and unreasonable," per one source.
For Barack to now blame her for Trump's re-election, the source added, was "akin to twisting the knife" and "beyond the pale," and has made the relationship "heated and tense and uncomfortable, and in a lot of ways, it was the last straw for her in the marriage."
