Trump's ICE makes over 10,000 arrests in just over 2 weeks
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, have already made 11,000 arrests of illegal immigrants.
This is despite the fact that, according to the New York Post, Trump has only been in office for a little over two weeks.
This has many wondering how many arrests ICE is going to make by the end of Trump's four years in office. We actually may have an answer to this question.
But, first, we'll take a look at what ICE has been up to.
The latest
Trump was elected president of the United States, for a second time, for several reasons, but perhaps no reason is more important than fixing the southern border crisis.
To this end, the Trump administration has launched a massive deportation effort. But, of course, before illegal immigrants can be deported, they have to be found and arrested. ICE has been doing just this, and at a very fast pace.
The Post reports:
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested an astounding 11,000 illegal migrants in the first 18 days of the Trump administration – which is already a third of the total busts the agency made last year under former President Joe Biden, The Post has learned. The arrests, part of President Trump’s mass deportation offensive, collared a previously deported Mexican cartel hitman, according to Department of Homeland Security sources.
Indeed, ICE, under former President Joe Biden, only made about 33,000 arrests last year. Trump is already at 11,000, and the years is just getting started.
Many are now wondering where this number could end up.
In the millions?!
According to Just the News, ICE could end up making over 1 million arrests in the four years of the Trump administration.
Per the outlet:
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is on pace to arrest roughly one million illegal aliens by the end of the Trump administration, a sizable figure...
The outlet, however, notes that, although this would be a big number, it would still be less than Trump and his administration are hoping for. This does not mean, however, that Trump will not reach his goal.
There is a possibility that Congress, with its Republican leadership, can expand ICE. Just the News reports:
The revelation comes as Republicans in the House and Senate look to include border security and deportation provisions and funding in an upcoming spending package that could allow for a significant expansion of ICE arrests.
This would certainly help Trump to obtain his goal.
