X pays Trump $10 million to settle lawsuit over Twitter-era ban
Elon Musk is known for being a particularly close ally of President Donald Trump and even appeared alongside him this week at an Oval Office press conference.
More evidence of their relationship emerged when Musk called it quits in a lawsuit that Trump had filed against one of these companies.
Trump receives $10 million settlement
According to the New York Post, X agreed to pay Trump $10 million in a settlement which was reached by the parties on Wednesday.
CBS News noted that the lawsuit was filed by Trump in July of 2021 after the social media platform then known as Twitter terminated his account.
That move came following the January 6, 2021 riot on Capitol Hill. Although the case was dismissed by a U.S. district judge in May of 2022, Trump appealed the ruling.
The president was eventually reinstated to Twitter after Musk purchased the social media platform in October of 2022 and rebranded it as X.
Musk actively supported Trump during last year's presidential campaign and then went on to lead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Facebook parent company paid Trump $25 million
X is not the only tech platform that the president has sued, as CBS News reported last month that Trump reached a $25 million settlement with Meta.
Meta, which is the parent company of both Facebook and Instagram, announced a two-year ban on Trump's account in the summer of 2021 before reinstating him in 2023.
The company maintained that Trump had violated its terms of service by helping to stoke violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
Trump donated $22 million of the settlement to his campaign while the rest of it was used to cover legal fees. Interestingly, Meta contributed $1 million to Trump's inauguration, an event which was attended by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Musk decries use of tax dollars to house illegal migrants
For his part, Musk has regularly generated headlines as a figure in Trump's administration, something he did again earlier this week by announcing that $59 million had been spent on housing illegal migrants in luxury hotels.
The @DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants.
Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.
That money is meant for American disaster relief…

"The [DOGE] team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants," Musk stated.
"That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high end hotels for illegals! A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds," he went on to pledge.
