The White House called Senator Chris Murphy a "moron" after an "obvious" parody account caused the Connecticut Democrat to blow his top.

On social media, Murphy has become known for his breathless, often profanity-laden posts attacking Trump and his agenda.

Murphy erupts at fan page

In his latest rant, Murphy donned the mantle of free speech warrior, despite his party's long history of censorship.

The senator attacked Vice President J.D. Vance over his recent speech in Germany, in which Vance criticized Europe's so-called democracies for censoring their own people.

Murphy accused the "Trump regime" of hypocrisy, pointing to border czar Tom Homan's threats to prosecute Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for instructing illegal aliens on evading deportation.

Murphy - who is also known for occasionally posturing as tough on the border- said AOC is simply informing illegal aliens of their rights.

Posturing

"It takes some f****** gall to have Vance lecturing Europe on 'free speech' when at the exact same time the Trump regime is threatening Democrats back home with arrest if they even explain people’s rights to them," Murphy wrote.

The senator's post included a screenshot of a Lara Trump fan page, leaving the impression that Murphy thought he was confronting Trump's daughter-in-law.

"If you support Border Czar Tom Homan arresting AOC for giving illegal aliens instructions on how to avoid deportation, post a [thumbs up emoji] in the comments," the fan page account posted on Thursday. "Make your voice heard."

White House blasts "moron"

The White House joined in mocking Murphy as critics pointed out that he was interacting with a fan account, and not Trump's relative, as Murphy appeared to think.

"You are a moron, Chris. It is obvious this page is not affiliated with President Trump, his family, or the administration. We do, however, support your right to make such a statement, no matter how imbecilic it makes you look," the White House's X account, Rapid Response 47, said.

With Democrats struggling to find their footing against Trump, Murphy has emerged as one of the shrillest voices against the president's sweeping government reforms.

The Senator claims Trump's efforts to shrink the federal bureaucracy are fomenting a "constitutional crisis" that threatens the very core of "our democracy."

"I don't agree. I'm not going to calm down," Murphy told ABC News recently. "This is a fundamental corruption, and democracies don't last forever, and what those who are trying to destroy democracies want is for everyone to stay quiet, for everyone to believe that the moment isn't urgent."
