A famous star of film and TV was arrested this week and they are now marred for life by the unflattering mug shot photo that was publicized after their run-in with law enforcement.

Eric Mabius, best known for his role in the "Ugly Betty" sitcom that aired more than a decade ago, was taken into custody early Thursday morning in Florida, according to the Daily Mail.

The handsome actor, who also stars in a popular Hallmark Channel franchise, looked nearly unrecognizable and appeared to have suffered some relatively minor facial injuries in the mug shot that has since been widely published by multiple media outlets.

Arrested and charged following alleged bar fight

Celebrity gossip site TMZ was among the first to report that Mabius had been arrested Thursday morning in Florida and was booked into the Nassau County Jail around 6 am on a pair of misdemeanor charges -- battery and resisting arrest without violence.

The outlet noted that the veteran TV actor was not smiling in his mug shot and appeared to have suffered bruising and a cut around one of his eyes, which suggested that he'd been involved in some sort of physical altercation.

Those suspicions were seemingly confirmed when the Nassau County Sheriff's Office released information about how deputies responded to a bar fight and found an "extremely intoxicated" woman and man standing in the doorway of the establishment while yelling at other patrons inside.

It was soon determined that the drunk woman had been acting "obnoxious" and had refused multiple requests from the bartender and other patrons to leave, including a man who was later identified as Mabius.

After that woman allegedly spat on others at the bar, witnesses claim that Mabius pushed her and another woman to the floor, jumped on them, and even pulled out some of the hair of the second woman before other patrons were able to separate them.

Mabius ultimately found himself under arrest and facing misdemeanor charges once he became "belligerent" after deputies arrived, including refusing commands to sit down and approaching one of the deputies from behind, which resulted in his being arrested along with the ill-tempered woman whose bad behavior sparked the conflict.

Decades-long career in film and TV

According to Mabius's IMDb page, he has credited appearances in 73 films and TV shows dating back to 1995, when he appeared in "Welcome to the Dollhouse."

Though he went on to appear in dozens of movies and a handful of popular TV shows -- including "Chicago Hope," "Party of Five," "The O.C.," "CSI: Miami," "Eyes," and "The L Word," to name a few -- the actor didn't hit it big until he starred in all four seasons of "Ugly Betty" beginning in 2006 through 2010.

In that series, per the Daily Mail, Mabius played the role of Daniel Meade, a fashion magazine editor who worked alongside the show's star character, Betty Suarez, played by actress America Ferrera, who somehow landed a job at the magazine despite being relatively unattractive and non-stylish.

The actor would go on to appear in several other films and TV shows but once again gained moderate fame as the star of Hallmark's one-season series "Signed, Sealed, Delivered," and reprised that role in more than a dozen spin-off TV movies for the channel.

Both TMZ and the Daily Mail reported that attempts were made to contact Mabius' representative for comment on the arrest and unflattering mug shot, but neither outlet received a response.
