Conservatives had reason to celebrate late last week when the Senate narrowly confirmed Kash Patel's nomination as FBI director.

This week saw Republicans cheering again when President Donald Trump named Dan Bongino as the FBI's deputy director. 

Trump touts Bongino's education and background in law enforcement

According to Breitbart, Trump announced the move in a post to Truth Social, writing, "Great news for Law Enforcement and American Justice!"

"Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel.”

"Dan has a Masters Degree in Psychology from C.U.N.Y., and an MBA from Penn State," the president went on to point out.

"He was a member of the New York Police Department (New York’s Finest!), a highly respected Special Agent with the United States Secret Service, and is now one of the most successful Podcasters in the Country, something he is willing and prepared to give up in order to serve," Trump added.

Patel hails new deputy director as "a warrior and lifelong public servant"

Bongino responded by expressing gratitude in a post of his own on X, stating, "Thank you Mr. President, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel."

Patel was also quick to voice support for Bongino, declaring, "I am proud to welcome Dan Bongino as the next Deputy Director of the FBI—a warrior and lifelong public servant."

"Dan has dedicated his career to protecting this country, beginning with his time in the NYPD, where he served in one of the toughest precincts, the 75th, before spending more than a decade as a Special Agent in the United States Secret Service," Patel pointed out.

Democrats call Bongino "a conspiracy theorist with zero FBI experience"

However, The Hill reported that Democrats such as California Sen. Adam Schiff responded to news of Bongino's appointment with derision.

"Selecting another right-wing Fox personality and internet troll — Dan Bongino — as Deputy FBI Director means two things," Schiff wrote on X.

"Trump installs another loyalist who won’t say no to any immoral or unethical act. And our law enforcement agencies — and the public safety — are further degraded," Schiff alleged.

Meanwhile, Illinois Democratic Sen. Dick Durban dismissed Bongino as "a conspiracy theorist with zero FBI experience."
