Trump gets back 'boxes' taken by Jack Smith
President Donald Trump has just gotten back the boxes that were seized by the Biden administration during the infamous raid of Mar-A-Lago.
Trump celebrated the return of the boxes via a message that he released on social media on Friday.
This was all part of the classified documents case that ex-special counsel Jack Smith had brought against Trump.
The case was dismissed, and Smith left town before the Trump administration took over.
"Justice finally won out"
This is how Trump, in his message, described the fact that the boxes are being returned to Mar-A-Lago.
He wrote:
The Department of Justice has just returned the boxes that Deranged Jack Smith made such a big deal about. They are being brought down to Florida and will someday be part of the Trump Presidential Library. Justice finally won out. I did absolutely nothing wrong. This was merely an attack on a political opponent that, obviously, did not work well. Justice in our Country will now be restored.
Based on Trump's message, it would appear that the DOJ, under the leadership of Attorney General Pam Bondi, is the one who decided to return the boxes to Trump.
It is unclear whether or not the boxes, at the time of this writing, have made their way back to Mar-A-Lago.
The New York Post reports:
Ahead of Trump’s post, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung told reporters that the president’s property was being loaded onto Air Force One to take back to Mar-a-Lago, where Trump will be staying this weekend.
Background
Chances are that we all remember the unprecedented raid that the Biden administration's FBI launched on Mar-A-Lago in the summer of 2022.
The New York Post recalls:
FBI agents who searched Trump’s Florida home on Aug. 8, 2022, seized 33 boxes found in an office and a storage room on the property, according to an inventory list released by the Justice Department. Smith’s team claimed sensitive White House documents were found commingled among newspapers, magazines, clothing, photographs, Christmas ornaments and other personal items inside the containers.
Chances are you can also remember the infamous photograph that was released by the Biden administration, showing "top secret" documents strewn across the floor of Mar-a-Lago. It would likely not be unfair to say that FBI agents arranged the documents in such a way for a photo op.
That's all history now, though, with the classified documents case being dismissed.
As Trump says, the contents of these boxes will eventually end up in his presidential library.
