Michigan was one of the key swing states which helped President Donald Trump get reelected to the White House last year.

In a startling move, this past week saw a Michigan Democrat who endorsed the president join his administration.

Trump nominates mayor of Michigan city as ambassador to Kuwait

According to Breitbart, Trump revealed in a post on Truth Social that Hamtramck's Mayor Amer Ghalib will serve as his new ambassador to Kuwait.

"I am pleased to announce that Amer Ghalib will be the next United States Ambassador to Kuwait,” Trump wrote in his post," the president wrote on Friday evening.

"As the Mayor of the City of Hamtramck, Michigan, Amer worked hard to help us secure a Historic Victory in Michigan," Trump noted.

"Amer earned his M.D. from the Ross University School of Medicine, and continues to serve his community as a proud healthcare professional. I know he will make our Country proud in this new role. Congratulations Amer!" the president went on to add.

Mayor endorsed Trump last September

Breitbart noted that Ghalib responded to Trump's announcement with a statement of his own which he posted to Facebook.

"I am honored and grateful to President Trump for the trust placed in me to serve our great country as the next ambassador to the state of Kuwait; a country that is dear and near to my heart," the mayor stressed.

"I look forward to representing our nation and strengthening the relationships between the United States and Kuwait. Thank you Mr. President for giving me this great opportunity!" Ghalib declared.

Breitbart recalled how Ghalib endorsed Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris last September despite his city historically voting Democrat.

Ghalib called Trump "a man of principles"

"Let me be clear, so our expectations are realistic. President Trump and I may not agree on everything, but I know he is a man of principles," Ghalib wrote in an earlier Facebook post.

"Though it’s looking good, he may or may not win the election and be the 47th president of the United States, but I believe he is the right choice for this critical time," Ghalib asserted.

"For this, and for many other reasons, I announce my support and endorsement for the former, and hopefully, the next president of the United States, Donald Trump," the mayor wrote as he drew to a close.
