Many air travelers have been left on edge in recent months following a series of crashes and other mishaps, some of which have proven deadly.

Yet accidents aren't the only threat passengers face, as this week saw a man get violent after swallowing rosary beads.

Incident began shortly after takeoff

According to Fox News, federal authorities have charged 31-year-old Delange Augustin with one count of interference with flight crew members.

Augustin's criminal charge stems from an incident which allegedly took place aboard American Eagle flight 4162 on Monday as it was making its way from Savannah, Georgia to Miami.

A criminal complaint filed in Georgia federal court asserts that Augustin drew attention from a flight attendant approximately one minute after the aircraft had taken off.

The flight attendant initially suspected that Augustin was experiencing a medical emergency as he was seen "stomping, incoherent yelling and shaking."

Augustin accused of kicking one flight attendant, punching another

When the flight attendant approached the man, he is said to have "turned in his seat, lifted his legs and kicked" the flight attendant in the chest.

Augustin is then accused of punching and kicking the passenger in front of him until the passenger fled to another seat, at which point Augustin began striking the empty chair.

The pilot decided to turn back to Savannah, and while Augustin is said to have initially regained his composure, the 31-year-old allegedly grew belligerent again once the plane landed.

Augustin is accused of throwing "several haymakers," with one of the blows connecting with a flight attendant in her upper arm.

Man's sister claims he was fleeing "religious attacks of a spiritual nature"

He allegedly grabbed his sister, identified as Medjina Augustin, and subsequently made his way towards the cockpit before being dragged to the ground by several passengers.

Following his arrest, Medjina Augustin attempted to explain her brother's actions, stating that they were traveling to Haiti in order "to flee religious attacks of a spiritual nature."

She asserted that "evil comes out in the darkness" and claimed to have "never experienced as much darkness as was on the plane that evening."

Medjina Augustin recalled how her brother told her to close her eyes "because Satan’s disciple(s) had followed them onto the plane and the legion did not want the Augustins to make it to Haiti." She further indicated that he had swallowed the rosary beads "because they are a weapon of strength in the spiritual warfare."
