The game of golf has long been a mainstay of President Donald Trump's lifestyle, and judging by the events of this past weekend, his years of practice on the many courses he owns have paid great dividends, indeed.

As Fox News reports, the president revealed on Sunday that he won the club championship at Trump International in Palm Beach County, while also noting that the tournament victory would “probably” be his last.

Trump shares good news

After taking the title on the links, Trump took to his Truth Social platform to proudly announce his win to millions of fans and followers.

“I just won the Golf Club Championship, probably my last, at Trump International Golf Club, in Palm Beach County, Florida. Such a great honor!” wrote the president.

Hinting at his plans for later that evening, Trump added, “The Awards dinner is tonight, at the Club.”

Trump went on to express his gratitude to all involved in the championship, stating, “I want to thank the wonderful Golf Staff, and all of the many fantastic golfers, that participated in the event. Such fun!”

Impressive video footage of the president on the course was posted by X user @_jonnymaga with the caption, “Trump with a walk-off putt to win the club championship today. Greatest athlete the Oval Office has seen.”

Talent beyond debate

Trump has never made any secret of his love for the links, but his claims of golf prowess took particular prominence last summer during a June debate against then-President Joe Biden, as the Associated Press noted at the time.

When asked by a moderator about his physical fitness for the highest office in the land, Trump remarked that he was in “very good shape,” adding that he had recently taken two championship titles at one of the golf courses he owns.

“To do that, you have to be quite smart, and you have to be able to hit the ball a long way,” Trump mused, suggesting that Biden “can't hit a ball 50 yards.”

Biden, for his part, boasted, “I got my handicap, when I was vice president, down to six” and proposed a head-to-head matchup with his Republican opponent in which both would be required to carry their own golf bags. “Think you can do it?” he jabbed.

Implying a bit of puffery on Biden's part, Trump labeled the Democrat's low-handicap claim “the biggest lie of all,” adding an additional note of skepticism by saying, “I've seen your swing. I know your swing.”

Carrying the torch

Though it was not immediately clear why the president suggested that Sunday's victory would “likely” be his “last,” his family legacy of golf greatness is also safe in the very capable hands of his granddaughter, Kai Trump.

Close on the heels of her memorable speech at last summer's Republican National Convention, Kai, currently a high schooler in Florida, announced a verbal commitment to play college golf at the University of Miami, and with her stated intention to eventually move into the professional ranks, it appears all but certain that the Trump name will continue to have a high-profile presence in the sport for years to come.
