Vice President J.D. Vance is no stranger to military weapons, having famously joined the Marine Corps after graduating from high school.

That fact was evident earlier this week when Vance was seen pulling the trigger on an M240B medium machine gun.

Vance tells Marines that the president is "proud of you"

According to Breitbart, the vice president got his chance to fire the weapon while stopping by at Marine Corps Base Quantico on Wednesday.

Vance also helped serve lunch to the Marines at Dwyer Chow Hall and conveyed a message from their commander in chief, stating, "[President Trump] wanted me to tell you two things. First, that he loves you. And second, that he’s proud of you."

The vice president also delivered a speech in which he recounted the benefits that serving in the Marine Corps had brought to his life.

Vice President jokes about schedule

Potomac Local News noted how Vance joked about the difficulties in adhering to his schedule, remarking, "That is not Marine Corps time, my friends."

"I remember Gunny Arledge always told me, if you’re five minutes early, you’re 10 minutes late," he recalled. "What does it mean when the Vice President is two hours late? I guess I’m on time, because who the hell is going to get me in trouble, right?"

Kevin Brown is the mayor of Quantico, and he spoke positively of Vance's visit during an interview with Potomac Local News, saying, "When I see Vice President Vance at events, both here and abroad, you can definitely see the Marine in him."

"It’s reassuring to know we have someone with that background in the White House advising the President," the local official went on to remark.

Vance expressed reservations about strikes in Yemen

Vance made headlines earlier this week The Atlantic magazine editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg published details from a White House text messaging group which he had been accidentally added to.

As the Daily Mail reported, Goldberg recounted how Vance expressed reservations about planned military operations against Houthi terrorists in Yemen.

However, the Daily Mail noted that Vance's communications director denied that there was any disagreement between Vance and the president.

"Vice President Vance unequivocally supports this administration’s foreign policy," William Martin was quoted as saying. He added that Vance and Trump "have had subsequent conversations about this matter and are in complete agreement."
