In February, tech billionaire Elon Musk was accused by conservative author and influencer Ashley St. Clair of being the father of her infant son, and she further upped the ante in March when she alleged that Musk had substantially reduced the child support payments he'd previously been sending to her.

Now, in a moment conveniently caught on video, St. Clair sold her $100,000 black Tesla Model S sedan, ostensibly to raise money to make up for the reduced payments from Musk, according to the Daily Mail.

The incident represents just the latest bit of negative news for Musk, whose deep involvement with the Trump administration and politics more generally has made him and his companies targets of opportunity for his critics and haters.

St. Clair sells her Tesla

On Saturday, a Daily Mail reporter and a camera were on hand to document the moment in which St. Clair sold her expensive Tesla-made electric vehicle outside of her New York City apartment.

"I need to make up for the 60% cut that Elon made to our son's child support," St. Clair said when asked by the reporter why she was signing over ownership of the car to the online vehicle resale company Carvana. Asked why she thought he'd done that, St. Clair smiled and laughed and replied, "That's a great question for him."

St. Clair signals support for the left's anti-Tesla movement

Pressed further on if she believed Musk was being "vindictive" toward her, she said, "Yeah. That's his modus operandi when women speak out."

St. Clair revealed that she hasn't spoken with Musk since Feb. 13, one day before she went public with her paternity claim against him, and proceeded to reference the organized boycotts, protests, and vandalism against Musk's Tesla as evidence that she is not alone in being displeased with his overall behavior.

"You can check the stocks, I'm not the only one who is cleaning up after his messes," she told the reporter, and per the Daily Mail, added of the anti-Tesla protests, "The markets are catching up to what I have known for a long time."

Musk vs. St. Clair in the comments

To be sure, while some on social media were supportive of and thrilled by St. Clair's selling of her Tesla, others knocked the move as an attention-seeking publicity stunt.

In response to one such post that was critical of St. Clair and her lawsuit to force Musk to take a paternity test, Musk posted, "I don’t know if the child is mine or not, but am not against finding out. No court order is needed. Despite not knowing for sure, I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year."

Somewhat surprisingly, St. Clair replied to Musk's post, "Elon, we asked you to confirm paternity through a test before our child (who you named) was even born. You refused."

"And you weren’t sending *me* money, you were sending support for your child that you thought was necessary … until you withdrew most of it to maintain control and punish me for 'disobedience.' But you’re really only punishing your son," the alleged baby's mama continued.

"It’s ironic that your last effort in court was to try to gag me while you use a social media channel you literally own to distribute derogatory messages about me and our child to the entire world. It’s all about control with you, and everyone can see it," St. Clair added. "America needs you to grow up, you petulant man-child."
