DANIEL VAUGHAN: The Joe Biden Coverup Finally Gets Exposed
It's finally acceptable in the media to say what everyone knew last year. Joe Biden was not capable of running for president, and there was a rapid power consolidation among Democratic elites to force Harris into the top slot of the ticket. You were a conspiracy theorist if you suggested any of this at the time. It turns out it was all true.
Jonathan Allen (NBC News) and Amie Parnes (The Hill) are writing a book. In it, they report that Democrats were terrified Biden wouldn't make it to election day or be able to do the job.
In the summer of 2024, Biden attended the G7 summit, where pictures showed him wandering around aimlessly. Reports leaked at the time that foreign diplomats were astonished at how bad Biden looked and acted. When questioned about it, the White House denied everything and called it fake news.
However, during the event, "To cover up the physical signs of Biden's aging, a makeup artist met with him in the morning when he traveled. The artist also covered up aging signs before Zoom calls with his aides. Biden consistently made these makeup appointments, but he sometimes canceled the briefings that were to follow."
After his debate with Trump, which revealed everything for the world to see, he made even more mistakes. "After the debate with Trump, Biden needed fluorescent tape to guide him through a fundraiser at New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy's (D) house and needed a teleprompter to speak to just a small group of people. But he still frequently trailed off during his remarks."
This book is one of four expected from now through the summer. Biden's inner circle is terrified of everything. Politico notes, "Biden's aides did not make him available to any of those books' authors." In contrast, Trump was interviewed.
The same Biden who couldn't debate, sit down for interviews, or give accurate testimony to special prosecutors is now being withheld from journalists trying to document what happened. In Biden's term, when his aides hid him from the public eye, that was a tell. And it's a tell now.
That's the first half of the revelations. The second half concerns how Kamala Harris took over the Democratic ticket.
On that point, Harris begged Biden for an endorsement. Biden did not plan on endorsing Harris immediately. He planned on "waiting a few days."
The authors note, "[Harris] knew that if Biden stepped aside without explicitly backing her, it would be taken as a statement that he lacked confidence in her ability to win or to do the job — or both," according to the book. 'That could mean crib death for a battle that she had not yet begun to fight. She also knew that a failure to throw his weight behind her would suggest that he had made the wrong decision in choosing her as his number two in the first place.'"
That's how we got the bizarre situation where Biden gave a written press release, stepping aside. Then, it was quiet for a few minutes, and he released a second statement endorsing Harris. His aides tried to brush this off by letting both statements have their own space. But that's not true. A Harris endorsement was not part of the original plans.
What was the plan? No one believed in Harris. That much was true. Everyone shared Biden's hesitancy. Notably, Barack Obama took days to endorse Harris. That's because he worked to spike the Harris nomination in the hours after Biden dropped out.
The authors note that "[Obama] ... didn't want Kamala Harris to replace Biden. He didn't think that she was the best choice for Democrats, and he worked really behind the scenes for a long time to try to have a mini-primary, or an open convention, or a mini-primary leading to an open convention, did not have faith in her ability to win the election."
Obama even tried to undo the Harris endorsement. "In one moment, he had set up a phone call with Congressman [James] Clyburn from South Carolina on the day that Joe Biden handed off the baton to Kamala Harris, and Obama had set up a call with Clyburn for like 5:30 that afternoon. And Clyburn thought to himself, this guy is going to try to rope me into the open convention thing, I better get my endorsement of Harris out there fast, so this is a short conversation."
There's no evidence Obama had anyone specifically in mind for the position; he just wanted Biden and Harris off the ticket. This is likely where you can place all the Michelle Obama rumors that kept sending up smoke signals during the campaign. Michelle's insistence she would never run, combined with Barack's insistence on a primary in the middle of the summer, is an unusual combo.
And now the tabloids are awash with rumors the Obama marriage is on the rocks. Make of that what you may. But at this point, any Democrats insisting that you can't read between the lines on their party should have a seat.
It was blindingly obvious throughout 2023 and 2024 that all of these things were happening behind the scenes. Republicans who saw this were more informed than your average Democrat voter with their heads in the sand.
The summer of truth is upon us. Whether Democrats want us to or not, we're going to learn what happened to Biden.
