First Lady Melania Trump announces White House gardens are open for early spring tours
First Lady Melania Trump might be staying out of most of the spotlight this time around, but that doesn't mean she's not doing a lot behind the scenes.
According to Fox News, the first lady made a long-awaited announcement regarding the ability for the general public to view the White House gardens, which is nothing short of spectacular every spring.
The longstanding tradition had to be delayed a few days due to "an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of all within proximity to public demonstrations planned near the White House," according to press reports.
Many Americans lined up early on Sunday morning to be among the first to tour the White House gardens.
What happened?
The White House gardens are some of the most pristine and beautiful in the nation, and hold the record for being the most continuoully maintained across the country.
Visitors over the weekend were able to take part in a real treat, getting to visit a number of the iconic gardens on the White House grounds.
Fox News noted:
On the tour, visitors can view the flower garden, The Rose Garden, the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, the Kitchen and Cutting Garden, and the Children’s Garden.

They also got to view the commemorative plantings. The National Parks Service detailed what that entailed. "Since the 1870s, most presidents have planted a commemorative tree while they were in office," the National Park Service says. "The White House Gardens are constantly changing with the seasons and administrations."
"A special opportunity"
Nicholas Clemens, director of communications at The Office of the First Lady, released a statement regarding the first spring tours of the gardens.
"We are proud to continue the longstanding tradition of Spring Garden Tours by inviting the public to enjoy the beauty and history of the White House grounds," her statement read.
She added, "It’s a special opportunity for visitors of all ages to experience the gardens that have been cared for by dedicated staff and enjoyed by generations of first families."
Many social media users commented on the beauty and tradition of the White House gardens, with many expressing their desire to go visit them.
