In some of the best news of the week for President Donald Trump and his administration -- and his supporters -- one of his last top guys was confirmed by the Senate for a big job assignment.

According to Fox News, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was confirmed by the upper chamber this week for U.S. Ambassador to Israel, a position that is especially important as the war between Israel and Hamas carries on.

Huckabee received strong Republican support and even snagged a Democratic vote courtesy of Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA).

Fetterman was the only Democrat to cross the aisle and back President Trump on his pick for the Israeli ambassadorship.

What's going on?

Huckabee secured his position in a decisive 53-46 vote in the Senate earlier this week to advance his nomination. A day later, on Wednesday, he was fully confirmed for the gig.

Many Democrats, especially the ones who seem to favor Palestine over Israel, despite Israel's place as one of America's closest allies in the Middle East, were not happy with Huckabee being chosen for the job, given his past views on the situation there.

Fox News noted:

The former Arkansas governor has previously argued it is Israel’s right to annex the West Bank and has flatly rejected the push to establish a two-state solution when it comes to the Gaza Strip.

Huckbee disputed claims that Trump wants to take over the Gaza Strip, saying at his hearing, "If confirmed, it will be my responsibility to carry out the president’s priorities, not mine."

"Extremist" views

New York Democratic Rep. Jerry Nadler was especially angry, saying Huckabee would bring "extremist" views to the Middle East.

"Huckabee’s positions are not the words of a thoughtful diplomat – they are the words of a provocateur whose views are far outside international consensus and contrary to the core bipartisan principles of American diplomacy," Nadler, a Jewish Democrat, said in a statement last month.

He added, "In one of the most volatile and violent areas in the world today, there is no need for more extremism, and certainly not from the historic ambassador’s post and behind the powerful seal of the United States."

Social media reacts

Fans of Trump and Huckabee celebrated the nomination confirmation across social media.

"Congratulations! Ambassador Huckabee!!" one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Excellent. He will represent us well."
