AG Bondi announces massive Coast Guard seizure affecting 2 drug cartels
Picking U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to head up President Donald Trump's Department of Justice was one of his best moves, by far.
According to reports, Bondi and the DOJ have been extra busy in recent weeks, this time reporting that federal agents have dealt a "major blow" to two major Mexican drug cartel operations.
The news came after it was reported that the U.S. Coast Guard seized a staggering half-billion dollars worth of illegal drugs during recent deployments, scoring a major win for the United States and the Trump administration.
The seizures came as a result of two Coast Guard cutters returning from a deployment in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.
What's going on?
Bondi announced that the $509 million seizure of drugs was from a Coast Guard interception of smuggling boats near Ecuador, Peru, and the Galápagos Islands.
The attorney general made the announcement as she stood in front of one of the ships in the Florida Everglades earlier this week.

"This is a textbook example of the Justice Department supporting the fight against violent crime," Bondi said during a press conference announcing the big bust.
She added, "We believe two cartels, [Jalisco New Generation] and Sinaloa, were heavily tied to these shipments. This is a major blow to their financial operation and their efforts to distribute drugs throughout our country."
The reports noted:
The 48,400-pound seizure was composed of more than 90% pure, uncut cocaine, as well as 3,800 pounds of marijuana.
Smugglers on board the vessels were associated with the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation cartels, which the State Department in February declared foreign terrorist organizations.
Kash Patel's statement
FBI Director Kash Patel announced further details of the seizure.
"This is what it looks like when the United States whole-of-government approach brings every resource to bear," Patel said during the press conference.
He added, "They are going to get all the drugs off the streets, off the markets, and as Attorney General Bondi said, we are going to lock them up. They are no longer going to be free to roam. We are going to dismantle the next-man-up theory that has been breeding in these Mexican cartels for generations."
It'll be fascinating to see what happens down the line as a result of Trump's top-notch leadership team.
