The outcome of the president's annual physical exam has taken on new interest in recent years due to the age of the individuals occupying the Oval Office, and the current commander-in-chief just revealed the results of his most recent check-up.

As ABC News reports, the White House released its report on President Donald Trump's Friday physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, declaring that he “remains in excellent health.”

Detailed findings released

According to the details released by the White House, Trump underwent a comprehensive physical exam, the findings of which were formalized by Capt. Sean P. Barbabella, physician to the president.

Among the more notable data points contained in the report was Trump's current weight of 224 pounds, representing a significant drop from years past and achievement Fox News personality Sean Hannity recently suggested was attributable to lifestyle changes, noting, “If he has a burger now, he usually doesn't have it with a bun.”

The exam further revealed Trump's resting heart rate to be an impressively low 62 beats per minute and his blood pressure an ever-so-slightly elevated 128/74, a reading which does not amount to hypertension.

Despite his well-known love of fast food, Trump's lipid panel revealed no areas of concern, including with regard to his total cholesterol, HDL, and LDL levels.

The bottom line, according to Barbabella, is that “President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function. His active lifestyle continues to contribute significantly to his well-being,” adding that he “exhibits excellent cognitive and physical health and is fully fit to execute the duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”

Cognitive state assessed

Perhaps of special interest to many observers on both sides of the aisle was news that Trump's physical included a neurological exam that “revealed no abnormalities in his mental status, cranial nerves, motor and sensory function, reflexes, gait, and balance,” issues that seemed to plague his immediate predecessor in office, former President Joe Biden.

According to Barbabella, Trump was assessed with the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, which yielded a normal result of 30 out of 30, and he also completed the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder, all of which produced normal results.

The Montreal Cognitive Assessment, as the BBC notes, is frequently employed as a means to detect cognitive decline and early signs of conditions such as dementia, and it involves tasks that include drawing a clock, naming animals, and correctly recalling words spoken minutes prior.

Trump touched on the examination on Saturday while speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, boasting that he “got every answer right” on his cognitive assessment.

The president added, “Overall, I felt I was in very good shape. A good heart, a good soul, a very good soul.”

Contrast with Biden

Trump's openness with regard to the cognitive testing and other aspects of his annual physical exam has been contrasted with the approach taken by the Biden administration, a time when the then-president did not undergo a similar assessment, despite widespread concerns about potential decline.

With a spate of recent tell-all books suggesting that Biden administration insiders -- including then-White House physician Kevin O'Connor -- engaged in a cover-up of failing cognitive abilities to a degree that necessitates further congressional investigation, it remains to be seen what might ultimately be revealed about the comparative fitness for office of the 46th and 47th presidents.
