DOGE is cross-checking government data to stop illegal aliens from claiming public benefits

This week saw President Donald Trump sign a memorandum aimed at preventing illegal aliens and other ineligible people from collecting Social Security.

That move came one day before a new report detailed how the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is cracking down on other government benefits.

DHS official: "The government is finally doing what it should have all along"

According to the Washington Post, DOGE staffers have begun cross-checking information provided by different federal agencies to root out those who are not entitled to assistance.

"The government is finally doing what it should have all along: sharing information across the federal government to solve problems," a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official was quoted as telling the Post.

"Information sharing across agencies is essential to identify who is in our country, including violent criminals, determine what public safety and terror threats may exist, scrub these individuals from voter rolls, as well as identify what public benefits these aliens are using at taxpayer expense," the official added.

The Post also pointed to claims from staffers who spoke on the condition of anonymity that the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is working on a new rule regarding so-called "mixed-status households."

HUD secretary says illegal aliens are diverting resources from Americans

The term refers to families in which some members hold legal status while others do not, and the new rule would reportedly bar those without legal status from remaining in publicly subsidized housing.

The Post's article was published less than a month after Secretary Scott Turner told Fox News that illegal aliens are diverting resources meant for Americans.

"At HUD, we only serve one out of four Americans that we should be serving, and that has to come to an end," the secretary explained.

"And so we're not only making it a priority, but we are making that our only priority, that American citizens will benefit from hard-working American taxpayer dollars," he stressed.

"Those that are here illegally, that are living in HUD-funded public housing, we're putting (them) on notice this is not acceptable," Turner continued before adding, "We will not have it anymore."

Trump's memorandum covers a range of programs

Meanwhile, A White House press release regarding Trump's Social Security memorandum stated that it covers "not only traditional Social Security provided to older Americans."

Rather, the memorandum also applies to "unemployment insurance, disability insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, TANF, and other programs."

Along with targeting illegal aliens, the memorandum instructs the Social Security Administration (SSA) "Inspector General to investigate earnings reports for individuals aged 100 or older with mismatched SSA records, to combat identity theft."
