U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi received an interesting request this week from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) regarding a recent attack.

According to Newsmax, Schumer called on Bondi's Department of Justice to open an investigation "into a possible antisemitic hate crime following the arson attack at the home of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro," the outlet reported.

During the recent Jewish holiday of Passover, Shapiro's mansion was attacked with fire bombs and other objects after a suspect scaled a fence and committed the crimes.

Suspect Cody Balmer of Harrisburg, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the attack on Shapiro's mansion, could face much stiffer consequences if the situation is treated as a hate crime.

What's going on?

Schumer noted that the local district attorney hadn't yet filed charges and asked AG Bondi to take action on the matter, given that it was more than likely that Shapiro's religion factored into Balmer's reasoning for attacking the residence.

"While the local district attorney has not yet filed hate crime charges, he acknowledged that Governor Shapiro's religion appears to have factored into the suspect's decisions," Schumer wrote in a letter to Bondi on Thursday.

"Our federal authorities must bring the full weight of our civil rights laws to bear in examining this matter.

Schumer added, "No person or public official should be targeted because of their faith, and no community should wonder whether such acts will be met with silence."

He added, "In conjunction with the timing of the attack during Passover, Governor Shapiro's visible embrace of his Jewish faith, and the context of rising antisemitism globally and across the country."

The suspect was clearly mentally unstable. Newsmax noted:

Balmer called 911 following the attack and told the operators that Shapiro needed to know he "will not take part in his plans for what he wants to do to the Palestinian people," according to a search warrant obtained by PennLive.

Bondi confirmed that her department was already in the process of opening an investigation.

On Wednesday, Bondi confirmed that federal authorities are investigating the attack that forced Shapiro and his family to flee their residence in the middle of the night. "It is absolutely horrific what happened to him," Bondi said. "Those photos — it was horrible. I firmly believe that they wanted to kill him."

Out of control

Clearly, dangerous, out-of-control antisemitic liberals continue to pose a threat.

With AG Bondi at the helm, hopefully, she'll make an example out of enough of them that the trend starts to die down.

Like him or not, Schumer was right in requesting that the DOJ take immediate action on the issue.
