Yet another top official has just departed from the Pentagon.

Politico now reports that Joe Kasper, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s chief of staff, is leaving his position.

This comes amid a significant shuffle at the Pentagon, one in which Kasper appeared to play a big role.

We, however, are only getting bits and pieces of information about the situation, so the entire story about what is actually happening still remains unknown.

Background

What we do know for sure is that several individuals, in the past week, have left the Pentagon.

Business Insider reported:

It's been a turbulent week for personnel shake-ups at the Pentagon, and it's only Thursday. Three officials are on leave pending investigations into leaked information, and a fourth elected to resign because he didn't want to be anyone's number two. On top of that, almost an entire team of 14 staffers is resigning en masse after being sidelined by the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE.

It was subsequently reported that some of the individuals who had been placed on leave have since been fired.

It was further reported that Kasper was at the center of this shakeup.

Fox News explained:

Kasper issued a memo in late March directing the Pentagon to investigate unauthorized disclosures to reporters and to go so far as using lie detector tests if necessary. The three had raised concerns to Hegseth about Kasper’s leadership, and Kasper believed they were trying to get him fired, according to the official.

The latest

At the time of this writing, there is some uncertainty about Kasper's future.

The Daily Mail reports:

Joe Kasper, Hegseth's top aide and longtime ally, is expected to leave his role in the coming days, according to a senior administration official, marking the latest in a string of high-level personnel shifts that have thrown the Department of Defense into a state of uncertainty.

Yet, it is claimed that Kasper's departure was "planned," and Politico reports that he is expected to take on a new role at the Pentagon.

Per the outlet:

Joe Kasper, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s chief of staff will leave his role in the coming days for a new position at the agency, according to a senior administration official, amid a week of turmoil for the Pentagon.

For now, it looks as though we are just going to have to wait to see how this one plays out. There is no doubt that much is happening behind the scenes.
