Musk says he'll dial back his duties at DOGE to a 'day or two per week'

Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have absolutely rocked the federal government to its core, in the best possible way.

President Donald Trump chose Musk to lead the department in order to slash wasteful government spending, and that's exactly what Musk has accomplished, but it looks as though he's ready to pull back from his position to some degree.

According to the Daily Mail, in the wake of Tesla shares dropping sharply, Musk announced that he would be scaling back his DOGE duties to a more part-time role, gaining Trump's praise for his efforts so far.

Because of the way he disrupted the government gravy train for many, Musk also became a massive target for the establishment and far left to criticize and attack.

What did he say?

Musk recently told Tesla shareholders that he would be spending "significantly less time" running DOGE and get back to operating his electric vehicle company.

The billionaire tech genius goes all in on any project he tackles, and DOGE was no exception, admitting that he spent countless hours running the department, especially at the start of the Trump administration earlier this year.

However, he recently explained that he would dial back his DOGE duties to "a day or two per week," presumably to satisfy Tesla shareholders who are concerned that Tesla isn't receiving the attention it deserves.

Trump praised Musk and his duties for the government thus far, saying, "He was a tremendous help both in the campaign and what he’s done with DOGE."

The president also believes Musk was "treated unfairly," adding that he "can’t speak more highly about any individual."

The Daily Mail noted:

Musk has been a top advisor to President Trump, often at his side even during weekends travel and his decision to depart DOGE came as a shock to many. But his own poll numbers have taken a hit, amid relentless coverage of his 'fork in the road' email to federal employees and what Musk himself has called occasional 'mistakes.'

Unfair retaliation

Trump said that he believes Musk was unfairly targeted by his critics, who took out their frustrations with the administration on Tesla.

"I also know that he was treated very unfairly by the – I guess you call it the public – by some of the public, not by all of them. I say he makes an incredible car. Makes - everything he does is good. But they took it out on Tesla. And I just thought it was so unfair, because he's trying to help the country," Trump said.

The president had also purchased a Tesla in a show of support for Musk earlier this year.

Only time will tell how Musk switches his game plan, but hopefully he still continues to make the massive spending changes that the government so desperately needs to make.
