Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi struggles to deliver anti-Trump speech

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 85, is among the oldest members of Congress, and the toll of her age has seemingly become too much for her, her allies, staffers, or the media to keep under wraps any longer.

While attempting to deliver a speech on Wednesday, Pelosi initially appeared "confused and unaware" that the microphone was not working as she began to deliver her prepared remarks, according to the Daily Fetched.

Yet, even after the microphone issue was swiftly addressed by another individual on the stage, the elderly Democrat lawmaker "appeared dazed" and "seemed oblivious" as she proceeded to "slur through lines" and frequently repeat herself in a "barely audible" and nearly indecipherable mumble of words.

Pelosi said what?

According to a press release from Pelosi's office, the former speaker appeared on Wednesday for a press conference at Arcadio’s Produce, a small business located in the SF Market, which was part of a broader Democratic Party effort to critically attack President Donald Trump and Republicans over their handling of the economy.

Pelosi began her remarks by thanking her hosts, though part of that went unheard because of an apparent malfunction with the microphone, which appeared to be quickly addressed, at which point the congresswoman proceeded with her speech.

"This is a remarkable place. I hope you had a chance to see the force of it all," Pelosi said, per a transcript. "Small businesses like Arcadio are the lifeblood of the American economy. With their great optimism, entrepreneurial wisdom, and courage."

"It is a privilege to join so many small business owners and community leaders during this Cost of Living Week in America. All over the country, House Democrats are having events with the community about bringing down the cost of living," she added. "That was something that the President promised in the campaign. But the exact opposite is happening now. So, this Cost of Living Week is part of a drumbeat of the national opposition to Trump's reckless economic policies."

Is something wrong?

A video clip of the elderly Pelosi stumbling her way through her speech was posted on X by pro-Trump podcaster Benny Johnson, who remarked, "A confused, diseased and disoriented Nancy Pelosi muddles through a slurred speech unaware her mic is not on. Staffers try and help. The Joe Biden curse has overtaken Pelosi."

As alluded to by Johnson, many commenters pointed out the uncanny resemblance of Pelosi's struggle to deliver a coherent speech to the similar problems suffered by former President Joe Biden over the past few years, and more than a few wondered if the congresswoman was plagued with dementia or some other affliction that has negatively impacted her cognitive capabilities.

Many other commenters suggested that the incident was further proof that term limits or a mandatory retirement age were necessary for members of Congress.

Democrats attack Trump on economy

Setting aside for a moment the increasingly obvious mental health decline of Pelosi, suspend disbelief and consider the absurdity of the way Democrats, who spent the past four years dismissing or ignoring the soaring price inflation and profligate federal spending of the prior Biden-Harris administration, now want to make the high cost of living for Americans a major issue under President Trump.

Indeed, Politico reported earlier this month how Democrats in the House and Senate have launched a coordinated partisan effort to attack Trump on his tariffs and other economic policies that sparked temporary uncertainty and sell-offs in the global markets.

Utilizing ads, speeches, and town hall-style events, the Democrats aim to link Trump and Republicans in the minds of voters to any and all economic problems and unease they may experience, while also seeming to hope that the economy continues to falter into next year so they can use it as a springboard to win the midterm elections.

To be sure, Politico observed that some polls show declining public support for Trump's economic policies but acknowledged that other polls show little or no change in that regard, and if this latest concerted anti-Trump effort is anything like the many others that have been launched over the past decade, it will likely soon become apparent that Democrats have overplayed their hand while Trump's popularity and support surge even higher than before as his policies begin to show positive impacts on the finances of the American people.
