President Donald Trump just signed a number of bills that effectively eliminate several energy-based regulations implemented by the Biden administration.

Trump, according to Breitbart News, signed the bills on Friday.

Take a look:

The details

Breitbart News details the four bills that Trump signed on Friday.

Per the outlet:

The first bill Trump signed, H.J.R. 20, rolled back regulations on consumer gas-powered water heaters, White House staff secretary Will Scharf noted . . . The second piece of legislation, H.J.R. 24, rolls back regulations the Biden administration placed on “walk-in coolers and freezers and other refrigeration devices,” which negatively impact everyday Americans, Scharf said.

You will likely remember these regulations, as they caused significant controversy when the Biden administration implemented them.

Breitbart goes on to write:

Trump signed H.J.R. 42 next, which rescinds an energy conservation regulation on household appliances . . . The final bill Trump signed into law on Friday was H.J.R. 75, which rescinds a regulation on “energy standards for commercial refrigerators, freezers, and refrigerator-freezers,” Scharf said.

As you can see in the above video, many of the people who helped to make these bills happen were attending Trump's signing of these bills. Trump, as he was signing them, had some of these individuals introduce these bills, and Trump himself made some comments on the situation as he went along.

The "how?"

The Hill explains that there is a congressional tool that allows Congress, with the approval of the sitting U.S. president, to undo recently passed regulations.

Per the outlet:

A tool called the Congressional Review Act (CRA) allows Congress, with the president’s approval, to undo recently passed regulations. The CRA is most commonly used at the start of a new administration to undo regulations issued at the end of the last administration.

It helps, of course, that Republicans have a majority in both the upper and lower chambers of Congress. Although it is not the biggest majority, in either chamber, it was enough of a majority to get this job done.

And, it was no surprise that this was coming. The Hill reports, "Trump has repeatedly criticized appliance efficiency regulations, calling them an attack on consumer choice."

The Democrats had tried to claim that these regulations were needed to combat climate change. They also tried to claim that these changes would actually help American consumers. These claims, however, have been significantly disputed.
