Last month saw President Donald Trump face mockery from critics when he suggested that egg prices were on their way down.

However, even CNN was forced to concede earlier this week that the president's claim has been proven right.

CNN: "Trump's egg price fiction has suddenly become reality"

According to the Daily Caller, CNN put out an article on Tuesday titled, "Trump’s egg price fiction has suddenly become reality."

The report cited the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI), which showed that the price of eggs has dropped by 12.7%.

This figure represents the sharpest one-month decline in egg costs that consumers have witnessed in more than four decades. What's more, the overall food-at-home index fell by 0.4%, its biggest drop since 2020.

"Five of the six major grocery store food group indexes decreased in April," the CPI noted, with meats, poultry, and fish falling 1.6%.

"The fruits and vegetables index decreased 0.4 percent over the month and the cereals and bakery products index declined 0.5 percent," it pointed out.

Secretary of agriculture: "You just can’t make this up"

The news did not go unnoticed by U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, who highlighted it in a social media post.

"The whole story is that [President Trump] is lying about egg prices going down, but egg prices are going down," she wrote. "Give me a break [CNN]. You just can’t make this up."

Anna Kelly serves as deputy White House press secretary, and she echoed those sentiments in a statement provided to the Daily Caller.

Democrats had hoped to leverage egg prices

"Legacy media outlets were quick to blame President Trump for egg prices amid the bird flu outbreak, but refused to cover how his policies dramatically dropped prices," Kelly asserted.

"The truth hurts: while the legacy media tried everything to keep him out of office, President Trump won, his policies are working, and families across the country are benefitting from lower costs," she added.

The CPI's report may come as a disappointment to Democrats, as the Associated Press reported in March that the party had hoped to leverage high egg prices in attacking Trump.
