Jeanine Pirro sworn in to Trump administration

Jeanine Pirro, the former judge and Fox News host, is officially a member of the administration of President Donald Trump.

Fox News reports that Pirro was recently sworn in as the interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., on Thursday.

To get rid of that "interim" title, Pirro will still have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. At the time of this writing, it is unclear whether or not she would have the votes.

This is all rather sudden.

Background

This all comes after Trump had to abruptly replace the former interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C. - Ed Martin. To be clear, Trump did not want to replace Martin.

Rather, Trump was forced to do so after the U.S. Senate made it clear that it would not confirm him. Several Republicans actually opposed his nomination.

Martin was given another job in the Trump administration, and Trump decided to nominate Pirro for Martin's old job.

The president, at the time, wrote:

Ed Martin has done an AMAZING job as interim U.S. Attorney, and will be moving to the Department of Justice as the new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney. In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime, and provide much needed Justice for its victims. Congratulations Ed!

As for Pirro, Trump called her a "powerful crusader for victims of crime."

It's official

Pirro was officially sworn in to her new role on Thursday.

Fox reports:

Former judge Jeanine Pirro was sworn in as interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C., on Thursday. Pirro, 73, will now lead a team of attorneys in defending President Donald Trump's administration in court as well as prosecuting local crimes in the nation's capital.

This, of course, is bittersweet news for Pirro's fans. Pirro has achieved a significant following as a Fox News host. Now, though, she will not be able to perform that role.

Fox released a statement, saying:

Jeanine Pirro has been a wonderful addition to The Five over the last three years and a longtime beloved host across FOX News Media who contributed greatly to our success throughout her 14-year tenure. We wish her all the best in her new role in Washington.

Pirro had been with the Fox News channel since 2006, quickly becoming known for her program, Justice with Judge Jeanine." That show lasted for over a decade, until Pirro was moved over to The Five.
