Trump insists Comey knew exactly what he was doing with the '8647' message
Former FBI Director James Comey really stepped in when he posted a picture of an arrangement he claims he found on a beach that read "8647," claiming he didn't know that the message was a threat against President Donald Trump.
According to Newsmax, President Trump finally weighed in on the controversy, saying that Comey, who isn't a fan of Trump as we all know, knew exactly what he was doing.
Comey's post, which was originally posted on Instagram, drew mountains of controversy and backlash, as it's literally a call to assassinate President Trump.
The former FBI director originally claimed ignorance, saying he wasn't aware of what it meant, but he later deleted the post after the backlash.
What did Trump say?
The president, during a Fox News interview, insisted that Comey was well aware of the message he posted and its true meaning.
"He knew exactly what that meant," Trump said in the interview with Fox News, adding that he believes Comey is a "dirty cop."
"A child knows what that meant," Trump said. "If you're the FBI director and you don't know what that meant, that meant assassination. And it says it loud and clear."
Newsmax noted:
Comey, who Trump fired during his first administration in 2017, posted the photo on his page on Thursday accompanied with writing reading, "cool shell formation on my beach walk," reports ABC News.
The number "86" is a slang term meaning "to throw out," "to get rid of" or "to refuse service to," but it has also come to be known as "to kill," according to Merriam-Webster.
Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem confirmed this week that Comey is under investigation for the post, which many interpreted as a call to have Trump assassinated.
The current FBI director, Kash Patel, confirmed that he would support Noem on the investigation, noting the seriousness of the situation.
"Any other person with a position of influence that he has, people who take very seriously what a guy of his stature, his experience and what the propaganda media has built him up to be, I'm very concerned for the president's life," Patel said.
Trump chimes in
The president weighed in on the situation.
"He did it for a reason," Trump said.
"He was hit so hard because people like me, they like what's happening with our country. Our country's become respected again and all this. And he's calling for the assassination of the president."
Most on social media agreed with the president, and it'll be interesting to see how the investigation plays out.
