Executives urge 'The View' to tone down anti-Trump commentary

Disney and ABC News executives have warned the ladies at The View to dial down the anti-Trump vitriol.

It isn't just the Trump-bashing that's an issue. Head honchos apparently feel that The View's tone has become too political in general for a daytime talk show.

But the show's opinionated hosts - and Ana Navarro especially - are pushing back, the Daily Beast reported.

'The View' shut down

Disney CEO Bob Iger and ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic have both intervened to encourage The View to lighten its tone, the reported noted.

Karamehmedovic suggested more celebrity and lifestyle content during a meeting with the show's producer and its outspoken cast, but the executive was rebuffed.

The women dismissed the request as "silly” and said they were "just going to keep doing their thing.” The hosts insisted that the audience wants to hear about politics in a time of upheaval.

"This is what our audience wants. Isn’t it gonna look kind of bad if we’re all of a sudden not talking about politics?’”

Navarro insistent

The issue came up again at Disney's recent upfront presentation - that is, a gathering where TV networks try to attract advertisers - where Iger told Navarro that he supports the show, but a change is still needed.

A network source suggested executives were responding to "viewer feedback" about the emphasis on politics. The constant political attacks led the hosts to read four separate legal notes during a single November broadcast dedicated to bashing Trump's Cabinet.

The View was still the top-rated show on daytime TV in the first quarter of 2025, but the network apparently feels the hosts' criticism could alienate viewers.

Liberal echo chamber

Hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro are all critics of Trump, to varying degrees.

The show has a predominantly female audience, and it's true that women lean Democrat, but millions of women also supported Trump in the last election.

We will grant this to the ladies at The View: Trump is the biggest newsmaker in the world, and his second term is proving to be hugely consequential. It goes without saying that a show about current events is going to discuss Trump.

But The View, like so many shows on TV, has become an echo chamber of liberal affirmations with little to offer those who do not agree with the cast and their viewpoints.

Apparently, the bosses have noticed.
