Jack Teixeira, who's currently serving a 15-year prison sentence for leaking national defense secrets from the Pentagon, recently told reporters that he would do it all over again.

According to Newsmax, Teixeira admitted that he's seeking a pardon from President Donald Trump, and is hopeful that he has a shot at getting one at some point.

He also believes that his case was "politicized" under former President Joe Biden's administration, arguing that he doesn't believe that he betrayed the United States in any way, adding that he believes he should be considered for a pardon as a result.

Teixeira's attorney formally applied for the presidential pardon earlier in the week, and both Teixeira and his attorney are hopeful that the president will give it some consideration.

What's going on?

The imprisoned man argued that he only did what he did to "educate" the population as to what he had discovered.

"My intent was to educate the United States populist people about what was going on," Teixeira told ABC News. "It was by no means meant to harm my country, but I did believe that I needed to educate the people about what was going on because I believe they were being lied to."

He admitted that he "tortured himself" over committing the acts, but made it clear that he would do it again if given the chance.

"I do believe that yes, I would have done it again," Teixeira said.

"I believe that I educated a lot of the people who have been kept in the dark and who were being lied to about this concerning all of the things that had been going on," Teixeira said.

Newsmax reported:

Teixeira pleaded guilty during his court-martial in March to military charges of obstructing justice for leaking highly classified documents about the war in Ukraine.

He also pleaded guilty in 2024 to six federal counts of willful retention and transmission of classified information relating to national defense after leaking the classified records to a group of gamers on a messaging app, Discord. He has remained in custody since his arrest in April 2023.

Insisting it wasn't that bad

Despite claims from then-Attorney General Merrick Garland, Teixeira said that nobody was hurt as a result of what he accessed and shared.

Above all else, he insisted that he believes he does not deserve to be in prison for 15 years as a result of the actions.

He claimed that the Biden administration used him as a "sacrificial lamb" at the time.

Only time will tell if President Trump decides to show mercy and grant his pardon.
