Trump fires National Portrait Gallery director for pushing DEI
President Donald Trump has just fired Kim Sajet, the director of the National Portrait Gallery.
The president announced the termination of Sajet in a message that he posted to his Truth Social account on Friday, the New York Post reports.
In the post, Trump made it clear why he has decided to fire Sajet. It turns out that she is not entirely in line with the administration's policies —particularly its stance on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Trump's seen enough
In his social media message, Trump said that it was recommended to him by "many people" to fire Sajet.
"Upon the request and recommendation of many people, I am herby terminating the employment of Kim Sajet as Director of the National Portrait Gallery," the president wrote.
He went on to explain why he is making this move.
"She is a highly partisan person, and a strong supporter of DEI, which is totally inappropriate for her position. Her replacement will be named shortly. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" the president added.
A further look at Sajet's background will be enough to support the president's decision.
Who is Kim Sajet?
Sajet has a long history of supporting Democratic policies through activism.
The Hill reports:
A White House official told The Hill that Sajet has donated to Vice President Harris’ presidential campaign through Act Blue. The Federal Elections Commission reported that she financially supported Democratic nominees including former President Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, (D-N.Y.), former Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison (D-S.C.) and others through ActBlue.
This, however, only scratches the surface.
Newsweek reports:
[The White House] also referred to Sajet's curation of a portrait of Trump, which has the caption "Impeached twice, on charges of abuse of power and incitement of insurrection after supporters attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, he was acquitted by the Senate in both trials. After losing to Joe Biden in 2020, Trump mounted a historic comeback in the 2024 election. He is the only president aside from Grover Cleveland (1837-1908) to have won a nonconsecutive second term."
This is one of several positions that is now in need of new leadership. Trump has also removed, recently, the Librarian of Congress, among others.
