Ukraine carries out drone attack deep inside Russian territory
Ukraine recently carried out a drone strike that humiliated Russia, destroying dozens of Russian aircraft and other infrastructure.
According to The Hill, the outlet's sister network, NewsNation, said President Donald Trump was reportedly not made aware of Ukraine's intentions to carry out such a brazen drone attack.
The attack came in the wake of Trump pushing hard for Russia and Ukraine to bring the three-year war to an end.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reportedly personally supervised the development of the plan to carry out the drone attack deep within Russian territory. The drone strike plan was reportedly worked on for a year and a half, the outlet noted.
What's happening?
Over the weekend, Zelensky made quite a post on his X account regarding the current state of Ukraine's position on the ongoing war.
"I heard reports from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the General Staff, our intelligence agencies, and the Security Service of Ukraine. Our defense, our active actions, and our diplomacy. We are doing everything to protect our independence, our state, and our people. I outlined the tasks for the near term and also defined our positions ahead of the meeting in Istanbul on Monday," he wrote.
Zelensky added, "First – a full and unconditional ceasefire. Second – the release of prisoners. Third – the return of abducted children. And in order to establish a reliable and lasting peace and ensure security, preparation of the meeting at the highest level. The key issues can only be resolved by the leaders. On Monday, our delegation will be led by Rustem Umerov."

The attack also comes on the heels of Trump expressing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling him "crazy" in a recent X post.
"I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY!" Trump wrote last week.
Social media reacts
Many across social media were stunned at how deep inside Russian territory the attacks occured.
"Which means the Russian Federation is perfectly capable of hitting NATO HQ in Brussels & the EU Commission etc," one X user pointed out.
Another X user wrote, "It looks to me as if Putin's palace on the Black Sea is certainly within range now..."
Only time will tell if Russia decides to retaliate in a big way. Many believe it's coming.
