Man arrested for trespassing at Mar-A-Lago wanted to marry Trump's teenage granddaughter
Secret Service agents caught a Texas man who tried breaking into Mar-A-Lago to see President Trump's granddaughter.
Anthony Thomas Reyes, 23, told police he climbed over the wall so he could marry Kai Trump, 18, and "spread the Gospel" to her grandfather. The attempted break-in occurred after midnight while President Trump was in Washington D.C., the Palm Beach Post reported.
Intruder at Mar-A-Lago
Reyes was charged with misdemeanor trespassing and released from Palm Beach County jail after posting $50,000 bond. The judge ordered him to cease all contact with Trump and his family.
Trump's opulent Palm Beach residence regularly attracts crazy people who try to break in. In fact, this is not the first time Reyes has targeted the property.
He was previously arrested for trespassing on New Year's Eve last year, while Trump was home.
Reyes' latest attempt was no more successful than the last. The Secret Service says he "triggered alarms" while scaling a fence before they detained him. He said he climbed over the wall to "marry Kai," referring to Trump's granddaughter, and to talk to President Trump about the Gospel.
Scaling the walls
No Secret Service protectees were home at the time.
"An adult male was arrested early Tuesday morning by the Palm Beach Police Department for unlawfully entering the Mar-a-Lago Club property in Florida. Shortly after midnight, the individual scaled a perimeter fence and triggered alarms," the agency told Fox News Digital.
"U.S. Secret Service personnel detained him without incident at the scene. Palm Beach Police officers responded to the scene and took the individual into custody, charging him with occupied trespassing."
Recurring threats
Kai Trump is the eldest daughter of Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. and his ex-wife Vanessa. Kai became more widely known last year when she gave a heartfelt speech about her grandfather at the Republican National Convention, just days after he survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
The Secret Service put up a security zone around Trump's 17-acre Palm Beach mansion after the July 13, 2024, shooting in Butler.
This isn't the first time members of Trump's family have been targeted.
An Illinois woman was previously charged with threatening to kill Trump and his youngest son, Barron. She even stalked then-17-year-old Barron at his high school in Florida.
A Florida man was charged last year with trying to assassinate President Trump as he played golf at his golf course in West Palm Beach.
