Leftist Senator celebrates return of illegal immigrant facing criminal charges

A Democratic member of the U.S. Senate is currently celebrating the return of Abrego Garcia, the illegal immigrant whom the administration of President Donald Trump allegedly wrongly deported.

According to The Hill, U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) is calling this "A victory for the Constitution."

This is the same Sen. Van Hollen who infamously flew to El Salvador to see Garcia and to have a photo op with him - despite the fact that Garcia is said to have a serious criminal background.

 Van Hollen's statement

Following the news that the Trump administration has decided to bring Garcia back to the United States, Van Hollen was one of the first to release a statement celebrating the move.

He said:

For months the Trumop administration flouted the Supreme Court and our Constitution. Today, they appear to have finally relented to our demands for compliance with court orders and with the due process rights afforded to everyone in the United States. As I have repeatedly said, this is not about the man, it's about his constitutional rights - and the rights of all. The administration will not have to make its case in the court of law, as it should have all along.

This, of course, is one way of looking at the situation.

Republicans, however, have accused Van Hollen of advocating for the rights of a criminal illegal immigrant over those of the law-abiding American citizens.

The Trump administration is now signaling that it is going to expose Garcia and his supporters, such as Van Hollen.

Criminal charges already filed

The Daily Mail reports that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has already filed a slew of criminal charges against Garcia.

Per the outlet:

On Friday, Attorney General Pam Bondi said that controversially deported 'Maryland man' Abrego Garcia, 29, had landed 'to face justice' over allegations of people smuggling and conspiracy to commit smuggling.

But, there's more.

The outlet continues:

Bondi also made the bombshell claim that Garcia had 'abused some of the female undocumented aliens' while he was transporting them. She additionally accused him of soliciting nude photos of a minor and playing a role in the murder of a rival. Garcia, however, has not been charged in relation to those crimes.

It appears that Van Hollen might end up regretting his efforts to bring Garcia back to the United States.
