Sen. Fetterman calls out hypocritical Dems for suddenly embracing Elon Musk amid feud with Trump

Democrats used to adore tech billionaire Elon Musk -- that is, at least until Musk hitched himself to President Donald Trump's MAGA wagon last year, at which point he rocketed to the top of the ideological left's political enemies list.

Some Democrats are now trying to reembrace Musk amid his ongoing feud with Trump, but that abrupt pivot prompted increasingly independent Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) to call out his leftist colleagues' glaring hypocrisy, according to Fox News.

The Pennsylvania senator suggested that his fellow Democrats should be more "consistent" like himself and decide once and for all whether they loved or hated Musk, and not continue to wildly swing back and forth depending upon the current status of Musk's relationship with the Republican president.

The falling out between Musk and Trump

The past week has been filled with news reports and social media posts detailing the ongoing feud that erupted between Musk and President Trump over what is and isn't contained in the so-called "Big, Beautiful Bill" under consideration in Congress that would enact numerous aspects of Trump's policy agenda.

Amidst that uproar, many Democrats have suddenly made overtures to Musk and aligned themselves with his opposition to the Trump-backed budget bill, which Democrats had already reflexively opposed.

The instant realignment has been jarring for some, given that Musk had just recently been next to Trump at the top of the Democrats' enemies list because of his influential assistance for Republicans during the 2024 election and his work with the Department of Government Efficiency to slash waste, fraud, and abuse in federal spending.

The left's hatred for Musk had been visceral, and included not just death threats against him but also coordinated boycotts, protests, and vandalism against Musk's companies, particularly Tesla, in which dozens of dealerships and countless vehicles were actually attacked and damaged or destroyed.

Dems were just "dumping all over Musk" but now claim to love him

On Thursday, Sen. Fetterman was asked for his thoughts on Musk's criticism of the Trump-backed and Democrat-opposed legislation, but the senator seemed more inclined to discuss his fellow Democrats' reaction to Musk's critical remarks.

"The Dems, we’ve been dumping all over Musk and vandalizing Teslas or whatever, and now, suddenly, we might be more back into him," Fetterman said, according to PennLive. "It’s like, you know, (Musk) is right about that big beautiful bill. I mean, now it’s like adding $2.5 trillion debt. I mean, it’s astonishing. I can’t imagine anyone genuinely thinking this is, like, a smart thing. And that’s where we are."

"Now, suddenly, Musk is right," the senator continued of his hypocritical colleagues. "Well, we were just going after him for all these months now, and showing up at Tesla dealerships and all those kinds of things. We have to decide, you know, where are we thinking about him,” he said.

Asked if his fellow Democrats were being "disingenuous" about their supposed newfound love and respect for Musk, Fetterman replied, "I’m saying, it’s like he’s right about the big beautiful bill. And suddenly, it wasn’t that long ago that Tesla was like the virtue signaling kind of accessory for Dems as well, too."

"So, now where we are on this kind of a thing now, where I follow what is the truth," he added. "I would never want to vandalize Teslas, and now the big beautiful bill is wrong for America. So, from my perspective, I just try to be consistent through that."

Will Democrats accept Fetterman's advice?

It is both ironic and amazing that Sen. Fetterman, who is still suffering from the physical and mental health impact of a near-fatal stroke he endured during the 2022 election, has become the calm voice of logic and reason within the Democratic Party over the past year.

Unfortunately, despite previously being a widely heralded rising star in the party, few Democrats will listen to Fetterman anymore because he has displayed the audacity to think for himself and buck the party's narratives on issues like working cooperatively with the Trump administration on certain things, actually enforcing existing immigration laws, and supporting Israel against Hamas terrorists, among others.
