U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) recently struggled to defend herself against her recent indictment, which would seem to suggest that the indictment has merit.

The Daily Caller reports that McIver bungled her defense during a recent appearance on The Beat With Ari Melber.

This was clearly an opportunity for McIver to explain why her actions were justified, but she just could not seem to find the right words to do so.

Background

McIver was recently indicted on multiple federal charges for her recent actions at an illegal immigrant detention center.

The Associated Press reported:

U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver was indicted Tuesday on federal charges alleging she assaulted and interfered with immigration officers outside a New Jersey detention center while Newark’s mayor was being arrested after he tried to join a congressional oversight visit at the facility.

The indictment was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba.

Habba wrote:

While people are free to express their views for or against particular policies, they must not do so in a manner that endangers law enforcement and the communities those officers serve.

McIver, at the time, responded by saying, "The facts of this case will prove I was simply doing my job and will expose these proceedings for what they are: a brazen attempt at political intimidation."

It's already not looking good for McIver

McIver, during the recent interview, attempted to explain why her actions were justified, but she had a hard time getting it out.

She began:

First of all, I disagree with everything that he’s saying. That’s why there was a long pause when you asked him would they win the case because I don’t think he even understands what happened that day.

McIver, here, was referring to Border Czar Tom Homan, who had accused her of shoving an officer.

McIver continued:

It’s been a lot of information that’s come out of his mouth that wasn’t factual, from the point of, like, we didn’t get a tour to we did get a tour. Just all of the different things that he was saying. So I disagree with everything that he’s saying. The bottom line is we’re gonna go to court. All of the facts are gonna come out. They’re gonna be on my side when it gets to that point.

There is little doubt that McIver is hoping that her legal team can do a better job defending against the accusations than she did during this interview.
