Former Trump Surgeon General becomes top critic of administration's health policies

For all of the great things President Donald Trump did in his first term in office, many, if being honest, would probably level some criticism at him for his choice of leaders and advisers.

One of those mistakes includes former Surgeon General Jerome Adams, who went from one of Trump's high-powered, exciting picks during his first term to a Trump Derangement Syndrome-ridden enemy of the president.

As The Hill noted, Adams has become one of the most vocal opponents of the Trump administration's health-related policies and decisions.

Adams, who was once barely heard of, is now using his former high-profile platform to go against Trump's health-related policies across the media landscape.

What's going on?

Adams isn't being shy in his criticism of Trump on the health front, and especially over Trump's pick to lead Health and Human Services, HHS Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

The Hill noted:

Adams has made veiled criticisms against Trump’s latest surgeon general nominee, and he’s spoken out directly against Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s decision to fire every member of a key vaccine advisory panel.

Adams' primary criticism over Trump and his health policies is that he believes he's putting people without the proper credentials into health-related leadership positions that could have a dire affect on the population.

"While I typically try to focus on policies over personalities, it has become necessary to directly address the role of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the head of HHS," Adams told The Hill.

"His position means he is directly involved in shaping the policies that affect national and global public health, which is why my most recent Times op-ed and social media posts specifically mention him," he added.

"However, I remain focused on the broader implications of these policies rather than solely on RFKs motivations and actions as an individual."

Mad about credentials

Adams insists that the Surgeon General's job should carry certain requirements to hold it.

"The Surgeon General’s position as a trusted public health authority and physician makes full training and licensure a critical expectation in addition to an implicit legal requirement," he said of Trump's Surgeon General nominee.

"I do not know and have nothing against Dr. Means – but I feel strongly that the person who is leading America’s Public Health Service should be held to the same standard as the people he or she is leading," he added.

Adams has clearly joined the anti-Trump chorus and gets plenty of media time for it given his former position.
