Gavin Newsom launches new Substack amid speculation about his 2028 prospects
This past February saw California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom promise to have "honest conversations" on his newly launched "I'm Gavin Newsom" podcast.
In a move that will likely raise questions about his future intentions, Newsom has attempted to raise his profile again with a bombshell new Substack.
Newsom pledges to "cut through the right wing disinformation machine"
According to the Washington Examiner, Newsom released a video to social media on Wednesday announcing the new venture.
Just launched on Substack.
We have to flood the zone and continue to cut through the right wing disinformation machine.

"There’s so much mis- and disinformation out there. There’s so much noise. I don’t need to tell you that," the governor was quoted as saying.
"The question is, how do we break through all of that noise and engage in real conversations? And that’s why I’m launching on Substack," he continued.
The California governor went on to express hope that "you'll follow me so we can continue to engage in a two-way conversation at this critical moment in our history."
Some Democrats see Newsom as a viable presidential contender in 2028
The Examiner pointed out that Newsom is prohibited from seeking another term as governor and the release of his Substack comes amid speculation concerning his plans in 2028.
Maria Cardona is a Democratic National Committee (DNC) member, and Fox News noted that she recently praised Newsom for his opposition to President Donald Trump's immigration enforcement efforts.
She told Fox News that Newsom "is fighting back, going toe to toe with Trump, and Democrats and the country are noticing."
Dr. Wayne Lesperance is a political scientist at New England College, and he declared that the Democratic governor "has found his voice."
Republican candidate says Newsom "has completely lost the plot"
One person who remains unimpressed with Newsom is Fox News contributor and California Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton.
Hilton told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on Tuesday that Newsom "has completely lost the plot. He doesn’t know what he is doing,” Hilton said.
"Like a few months ago, he was all about trying to pretend that he was moderate. Of course, he is not. He didn't do anything about any of the issues that he talked about, whether that’s biological men in girls sports or anything else," the candidate pointed out.
