An allergic reaction sent U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to the hospital on Tuesday, according to her spokesperson, and has now been discharged from the hospital and sent home.

Tricia McLaughlin, a spokeswoman for the department, stated, "She is alert and recovering." McLaughlin explained that the patient's hospitalization was due to a "abundance of caution," according to a report by The Daily Mail.

Immigration enforcement, airport security, and disaster response are just a few of the many responsibilities that Noem, 53, oversees as director of a massive organization with around 260,000 personnel.

She has been one of the most visible cabinet members under President Trump, going on numerous trips and keeping up a strong social media presence.

Noem's Reputation

She has been in ads urging illegal aliens to leave the nation willingly, and she is frequently the public face of his mass deportation campaign. She also goes on immigration enforcement operations frequently, ensuring that the press sees that her operations have been at the heart of the presidential order to deport illegal aliens.

Last Monday, at her news conference in California, she was delivering remarks when security forcibly removed U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, a Democrat from California, who attempted to talk with Noem about immigration raids. In an impassioned address from the Senate floor on Tuesday, Padilla recounted the incident.

The Secret Service, which is tasked with safeguarding the secretary, "thought he was an attacker," according to Homeland Security. The lawmaker's actions were called "disrespectful political theater" by some.

Footage from the event shows a Secret Service member assigned to Noem's protection detail shoving Padilla out of the room while snatching his jacket. They threw him to the floor and put him in handcuffs in the corridor outside.

Noem's Take

Following the altercation, Noem spoke with Padilla and described it as a "great" chat; nonetheless, she criticized Padilla's approach, saying, "something that I don't think was appropriate at all."

Former South Dakota governor, congresswoman, and Trump supporter, Noem was nominated to lead Homeland Security soon after the president was elected.

She claims she sought out Trump for the Homeland Security portfolio on purpose since it dealt with issues close to his heart.

Another Bad Turn

A purse belonging to Noem was snatched on Easter Sunday of this year, when she was out to supper with her family.

According to the reports, the purse included approximately three thousand dollars in cash, her keys, her driver's ID, her passport, and her Homeland Security badge.

It was reported by the Department of Homeland Security that Noem had cash in her purse to pay for Easter events, including dinner, gifts, and other activities for her family.

After further investigation, a suspect was apprehended in connection with the incident, and he has been charged with aggravated identity theft, robbery, and fraud in federal court.
