Trump demands Senate GOP do away with Biden's green energy tax credits

President Donald Trump is busy working on world peace and making sure Iran stays in check, but he's also still battling plenty of issues on the home front, including convincing Congress to crush former President Joe Biden's "green energy" initiatives.

According to the Daily Caller, the president is now demanding that Senate Republicans crush any trace of green energy tax credits that were enacted under former President Joe Biden.

The demand creates quite the pickle for Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who is desperately attempting to wrangle enough Republican support for the bill and to get it passed as soon as realistically possible.

Getting rid of the green energy tax credits is widely accepted by Senate conservatives, but the moderate side of the GOP is expected to not be thrilled with the idea, which could cause delays in getting the bill to the president's desk.

What's going on?

President Trump made his feelings on the tax credits clear in a brutally honest Truth Social post, even going as far as calling them nothing more than a "scam" enacted by his predecessor.

"I HATE 'GREEN TAX CREDITS' IN THE GREAT, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL. They are largely a giant SCAM. I would much prefer that this money be used somewhere else, including reductions. “Anywhere” would be preferable! Windmills, and the rest of this 'JUNK,' are the most expensive and inefficient energy in the world, is destroying the beauty of the environment, and is 10 times more costly than any other energy."

Trump noted that the green energy initiatives don't even properly work without significant government subsidies, adding that most of the parts and materials are manufactured overseas.

"None of it works without massive government subsidy (energy should NOT NEED SUBSIDY!). Also, it is almost exclusively made in China!!! It is time to break away, finally, from this craziness!!!" Trump wrote.

The president's demand is causing a headache, to some degree, for Senate GOP leaders.

The Daily Caller noted:

This marks the latest hurdle for Senate Republicans as Thune has floated holding a “vote-a-rama” to pass the president’s landmark bill as early as Wednesday. GOP senators are still negotiating changes to contentious provisions, such as reforms to Medicaid, in their draft proposal.

The Trump card

President Trump has enough influence with the GOP-led upper chamber to push them to phase out the tax credits.

Until now, it was noted that while Trump has called for them to be ended in the past, he's stayed largely silent on the issue.

The Daily Caller noted:

Though the Senate’s proposal would almost immediately end tax credits for electric vehicles, rooftop solar panels and hydrogen fuels, the upper chamber rolled back House-passed language that moderate GOP senators argued went too far.

Only time will tell if GOP Senate leaders get the ball rolling in Trump's direction sooner than later on this one.
