President Donald Trump, on Friday, celebrated the peace deal that he helped to effectuate between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

He did so, according to CBS News, with an event that he held in the Oval Office of the White House.

"So we're here today to celebrate a glorious triumph, and that's what it is, for the cause of peace," Trump said at the event.

He added, "This is a long time waiting. The signing of a historic peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda. The conflict has continued and it's been going on for many, many years. It's been going from, I guess they say 30 years."

Here's what's going on:

The New York Times reports on how Congo and Rwanda signed the peace agreement on Friday.

Per the outlet:

The State Department under Secretary of State Marco Rubio has shepherded talks between the two countries, and Mr. Rubio welcomed their foreign ministers to a table in the Harry S. Truman Building, the department’s headquarters, where the signing ceremony took place. The three diplomats and the audience applauded after the signing of the documents.

Rubio is quoted as saying, "We are grateful to both of you. I know how hard it was and how much work went into it."

The big task now is to ensure that the deal is adhered to.

Trump said that he will be "putting a lot of pressure" on the two countries to honor the agreement.

A Nobel Peace Prize for Trump?

Many are calling for President Trump to receive a Nobel Peace Prize for his various efforts to secure peace around the world, such as here with Congo and Rwanda, or in the Middle East with Iran and Israel, or in various other places.

The president, however, does not believe that he would ever get such an award, no matter we he did.

Not too long ago, Trump posted a message to his Truth Social account explaining why he thinks this is the case.

He, in part, wrote:

I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between India and Pakistan, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the War between Serbia and Kosovo, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping Peace between Egypt and Ethiopia (A massive Ethiopian built dam, stupidly financed by the United States of America, substantially reduces the water flowing into The Nile River), and I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for doing the Abraham Accords in the Middle East which, if all goes well, will be loaded to the brim with additional Countries signing on, and will unify the Middle East for the first time in “The Ages!”

Let's hope the president is wrong about this one.
